All-Star appearances usually do matter for 1st timers, so I can see Thomas being upset.

Especially considering the path that his career has taken, it would have been nice to get the recognition.

It should be noted that not just Malkin replacing Crosby, but justice is finally served with Thomas replacing Brodeur.

Also, in the West, Scott Niedermeyer, Corey Perry, and Mike Ribeiro are going as replacements for Sergei Zubov, Henrik Zetterberg, and Paul Stastny.

Pretty soon no one who was actually selected (or elected) to the game will be going. Laughing

Alfredsson, who is currently injured, still hasn't backed out, and I expect he will.

Memo to the NHL your season is too long and your suspensions arent dissuading any of the guys that don't belong in the league in the first place... sober up...

So will Colorado have no rep? Confused And there are three freaking Bruins after all? Laughing

Something seems weird about Niedermayer being there too... didn't he just get back?

Niedermayer!?! Is this a reward for spending the first 2 months at home?

I guess there's a limit to the NHL's policy w/r/t everyone being represented... Svatos should've gone as the starting pitcher, though. 20 goals, 3 assists. Laughing

Yeah, Scotty being there rubs me the wrong way as well.

We play such an exciting brand of hockey that three was inevitable...

Seriously though, Chara was voted, Savard is scoring at over a point a game despite having new linemates every other shift, and Thomas has outperformed every goalie in the league thus far. It was a crime that he wasn't there, and they've seized the opportunity to correct the mistake.

As for Colorado, 1) who cares, and 2) Sakic or Stastny could be their reps, and both are injured, so they're covered. I have no desire to see Jeff Finger at the all-star game...

Since the NHL had a chance to invite both Sedins I have to conclude they are either ignorant of the Sedin dynamic or they have some vested interests that make no sense to hockey fans.

Either way, the all-star game might as well be run by a marketing company in Alabama.

Thomas in for Brodeur...likely due to the Death threats received from an unknown BC source I would imagine.

Rumor has it that Daniel doesn't want to go because of an expected baby. I haven't seen this written anywhere official, though. (But really, why would it be unless he was actually invited, I guess.) I've also read that the NHL, knowing no one really wants to play in the ASG, is vetting their prospective choices with teams first, which is why a lot of the picks have seemed maybe a little curious... not sure if this is just speculation.

Not to mention he's stealing other people's material!

I would say that Hounsy's statement is far more accurate Smile

Niedermayer there after 17 games...oh how nice. He's been good, but how about the second-leading scorer among defensemen? Or, if having 5 guys from the best team in the league by a pretty good margin is too many, or if Rafalski turned down an invitation, how about a guy who actually honours his contract and committment to his team?
