Interesting comments by the TSN panel. Said that GM's in the East are calling Montreal the best passing team in the East. Maguire called them the fastest, but I think that would have more to do with the first comment than anything else. Nothing increases the pace quicker than good passing.

What struck me the most was McGuire's description of the Habs as "a team". Not surprised they will make the playoffs - despite the preseason "analysis" by the THN, but I'm really surprised that they are gelling at such a rate. They're so young but it looks like Gainey did his work and combined character/coachability with skill. The issues are good ones e.g. Should the Habs keep Huet vs. can the Habs get a goalie.

Third game in four nights, but excuses are extremely lame at this point. Another ass raping by the Habs - don't these idiots realize that 10 great games will be instantly forgotten after one outing against the Habs that is anything less than stellar?

It's a minor point - Montreal would have creamed us no matter what - but I really don't like the league focus away from hitting and physical play. It's what made Buffalo artificially successful last year, and Montreal this year. I get enough fucking soccer at home - when I watch hockey I want to see hitting, fighting, scrums, dust ups, the circus, that's hockey damnit.

I don't get it either razz. The B's are pretty good (not Habs good - but you can always dream) so I can't completely determine why they always get creamed of late. I don't think it's the goon aspect, because the B's aren't much stronger than the Habs. The confidence thing is there, sure. But enough to get routed so badly the last three games?

Julien commented in one of the Boston rags a few days ago that at some point it becomes psychological, and even suggested it's at that point. I tend to agree - you get your ass handed to you enough times and it can be tough to avoid thinking that you'll never beat a team. As for why, who knows. There are plenty of other instances of one team owning another; this is hardly unique to Montreal / Boston, except in that ITS BEEN FUCKING GOING ON SINCE MOSES WALKED ON THE MOTHERFUCKIN EARTH!!! Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

As for stronger than the Habs, not that it's anything to be proud of in the no hitting league, but I do think we are significantly bigger and stronger. Carbo even suggested as much after the recent 5-2 pasting... er... I guess that was a relatively good outing for us...

This is a great recap of the game as well:

http://www.boston.com/sports/hockey/bruins/articles/2008/01/23/in_montreal_bruins_are_behind_the_8_ball/

Quote:

In their six losses to the Canadiens - nearly a third of their total setbacks (19) this season - several things have become clear. The Canadiens have more skill. More speed. Better goaltending. And a whole lot more swagger.

At no time was this more evident than during a four-on-four stretch in the second period. Alex Kovalev lost his glove behind the Boston net, but the winger, while stickhandling through the traffic cones known as Boston defenders, retrieved his mitt and continued to cycle with the puck, delighting the home crowd.

I'm sure Julien is right - the team believes they can't win. They tense up. or the they try to hard. Whatever it is, they do things differently than when they win. I was also thinking about Montreal - they're a young team and so confidence is an issue for them. With the B's - they believe they can win. So they play - they let their talent come out. Combine the two, and you have Moses, lol.

How the hell do you change a rut? Pep talks? Change the routine before the game? Talk tough? bring up a bunch of AHLers before the game to change the makeup?

Disclaimer - I do not want things to change. At all.
