Some choices are a little odd -- Kessel? Seriously? Liles? -- but an interesting read nonetheless. I'm sure there will be lines around the block for the services of Brad Isbister.

That list has some wierd names, like you said...PJ is signed on for next year and I think if Boston is in the hunt, he isn't going anywhere.

Steve Eminger?

I can't see Minny trading Demitra if they're in playoff position.

Guys that I would love to see in a Wigns uniform after the deadline: Foote or Barret Jackman as a mean, physical, defensive presence. Trent Hunter. This is depending on the price.

It has been pointed out that up to 29 teams could be in the playoff hunt on deadline day. That means the only guys up for grabs will be Craig Rivet-types - veterans who have fallen out of favour and have expiring contracts.

Happy hunting.

Milbury recently called Kessel's flaws "fatal"; his defensive game is not that great, and if Julien hockey is truly the way we're going... look the kid is 20 and it would be idiocy to move him, but that has never stopped us before Mad

As for what we'd want, God knows. We dealt Boyes because we felt we had a ton of forward prospects and less blueliners, but most of those prospects are of the "two way" variety - not two way as in nothing prospects, two way as in will play, will be solid NHLers, but won't be stars. Kessel is one of the few that has star potential. I don't think we can expect that out of the cyclops.

As for the D, we do have Hunwick and Lashoff knocking at the door, not to mention Sigalet and maybe Alexandrov if he continues to develop. But again, only Lashoff has that star potential, IMO.

We have the room to take Kaberle back, and frankly, either he or Eminger would be enough for me to consider moving Kessel. We lack a true #2 behind Chara; add Kaberle to what we have and all of a sudden the D is stellar, especially if Alberts returns...

As for Axelsson... he was our best player until he got hurt. No one west of Michigan will have noticed, but he's been one of the best two way players in the league this year. Realistically, we need Bergy and Albe back to contend. Also, Axelsson's strength is speed; at his age that could go at any point. If I'm Chiarelli not only do I move him at the deadline, I also package him with Murray so that anyone wanting Axelsson has to take Murray's contract off our hands as well.

Don't get me wrong... love Muzz and he still has game, but it's time to get a bit younger and clear payroll...

Should also say PJ is at like 1.9 per, completely affordable later in the year. If Atlanta is in the hunt... think of what we could get back Laughing

Why when we can pay twice the cap space for a far more ineffective Tucker.

No way. Milbury would give up on a 20 year old who hasn't fully developed yet? Shocking.

I think that answers the question of what Boston should do right there. Laughing

Not sure why Langkow and/or Huselius isn't on that list.

Do you think that if Sutter wants to make a playoff run that he would trade those guys instead of keeping them?

Keenan would dump the latter in a heartbeat, but I thought Tanguay was the trade bait...

Tanguay is actually signed for 1 more year. So he would need someone to eat that 5.4. I don't know.....the bottom line is requiring his movement and that's why I think Sutter is getting so irritated with the media....they've already figured out that he has cornered himself.

Langkow and Huselius are UFAs....along with Nolan, Conroy, Yelle, Smith and Goddard.

I think Yelle would fetch a pleasant return at the deadline.

Would you really want to trade Yelle before the playoffs, though? Or anyone, really? If Kipper brings his game up a notch, the Flames as is are legit contenders to do some damage in the West, and who knows, could come out on top. Kipper has so far raised his game from D or F early in the year to a respectable B or so the past month/month and a half.... he has yet to bring his A game, and I'd hold onto the vets I have just to make a run this year and sort it out after it's over.

Of course not. I picked the Flames to win the cup this year. All eggs are in this years basket.

Now....if something terrible were to happen and the Flames suddenly tanked it might not be such a bad thing as it would help Sutter's offseason.

The trading deadline is only 29 days away. Judging by the amount of movement we just saw over the all-star break (none) I doubt we will see much in trades. The scuttlebut among Vancouver media is that Nonis is trying to make a trade but the other GMs are trying to pry Luc Bourdon from him for what are basically utility forwards. No thanks.

Additionally, the following players are said to have a no-trade:

...Lot of them on the Leafs.

Bryan Smolinski has a no-trade clause? Laughing

I thought his very raison d'être was getting traded.

When he signed with MTL, I understood that that was done in a very tongue-in-cheek kind of way... I recall sask et al having a Laughing about that when he signed... I guess that he didn't want to pay any more penalties if he's on an one-year lease... Smile

Yeah, having Smoke with a NTC seems beyond pointless, but I guess when he got hurt for 6 weeks this year and then came back, it was like acquiring him at the deadline anyways. Laughing Oddly enough, he has played much better since coming back from injury, justifying the trade acquisition.
