Reuters: These jerseys still look really weird.

Ryan Smyth has returned to the Alberta capital, set to play his first game against the Oilers in an enemy uniform.

But unlike his emotional airport departure in February, the 31-year-old Banff, Alta., native didn't shed any tears Monday at a news conference prior to Tuesday's clash at Rexall Place (TSN, 9pm et/6pm pt).

That is, until he was asked if it would be emotional.

''I'm sure I'll break down,'' said Smyth, before stopping to compose himself, his eyes glistening just a little. ''Lot of great memories.

''It was tough leaving and obviously it's going to be tough tomorrow, but it's nice to be back in Alberta.''

Ryan, time to get over it. This isn't the fucking Berlin Wall coming down. You're from Edmonton, you surely go back all the time. You could have taken a little less money to go there. You signed with a divisional rival.

He clearly wasn't beat enough as a child.

Meh, you play in a city you love for like 12 years, it'll always be emotional. He would have taken less money to go there(Edmonton could have had him for 5.5 vs 6.25 from Colorado. Hell they could have had him for 5 after the 06 season but he had to go "prove himself" to Lowe Rolling Eyes ). Lowe didn't want to pay him. He gave his heart and soul to that team for his entire career and Lowe continuously took advantage of it. So fuck him. Go sign with a division rival and shove it up his ass.

That's fine, I'm just tired of the dead-horse flogging, though. Everyone knows this is a business, and his story isn't particularly unique. I guess it's the constant Canadian media coverage that is tiresome. If Ryan Smyth weren't this goofy hoser, I don't the media would take half as much interest in it, and therefore Ryan himself would tone it down a little.

Yeah, he wouldn't have to cry about it on cameras if there wasn't a billion cameras in front of him. Laughing

Fuck, I'd rather see this anyways than the media following every single step of David Beckham and Posh, or "Dice-K's <1st, 2nd, 3rd...> visit to <insert name of city in which his next start occurs>"

I certainly hope he shoves it to the Oilers, I already love the "Goofy Hoser" for FINALLY injecting some heart into the first Flames/Avs game of the year. I'm tired of the Avs sleepwalking around divisional rivals in Alberta while they get all psyched for the Canucks. If emotion is what gets him to kill the Oil on a regular basis, fine by me.

On another note, yes, the jerseys on both teams suck. Thanks RBK. Rolling Eyes

Sure Lowe wasn't fair too him and Edmonton fans need to pay attention to that, but Smyth needs to suck it up and start living the good life he has no excuse not to be living. My captain Canada (not that I have one) would not be such a dork.

Mine also wouldn't blatantly follow through into goalies heads. Man, he's good in front of the net but he drives me nuts as a goalie watching the shit he gets away with.

Watch him fucking swing his stick around on this one. Doesn't connect though.
