There's still 30 games to go.

This team is led by an enigmatic.....ummmm.......nancy.

Hopefully the NE division can step up and smack these turds back where they belong. Twisted Evil

Certainly a crop of unknowns, Higgins excluded.

I do have to give them credit. I would never have pictured a squad like they have being called the best in the East. Its this typical list of unknowns that would go ahead and screw it all up by winning the cup. There's something in the water up there.

Harmy,

I never said that I thought that the Habs were the best in the East, I said the Mullet said the Habs were the best.

And in EL's response, I don't think he was saying we're the best in the East, but we are much better than 14th place as so many had us placed at the beggining of the year.

That was my attempt at a Braveheart type speech to get Habs fans excited about our playoff chances. It's a word-for-word transcript of a similar speech I gave at Miami's last week. Of course everyone there speaks Russian so I figured it might work better here.

As for the playoffs, if Huet is hot we can beat anyone, similar to if Tim Thomas is hot he can beat anyone - except for the Habs apparently...

If by bigger and tougher you mean will not respond to physical contact and will wait for the referees to save their asses, then yes, I agree.

As for exceeding predictions, everyone picked us to finish dead last, EVERYONE. There was at least some variety in where people thought Montreal would finish. And actually, I recall some of you being somewhat pessimistic at the start of the year. I, on the other hand, knew the B's would be far better once we turfed Hitler...

I asked you this before, and you never gave me an answer. Who picked the B's to finish last? Because it sure as fuck wasn't everyone, EVERYONE.

The only one that I still have is the Hockey News one, which did pick them at 15th. Who else did?

I suspect the real issue is why these publications deluded themselves into thinking the Leafs were better than either the Habs or Bruins.

I stopped subscribing to the Hockey News during the lockout and never picked it back up. I didn't like their attempt at filler during that time.....they could have at least offered a discount on the crap (and severely reduced mag) they printed during that time frame.

I think I picked the B's to finish either 13th or 14th. I am not ashamed that I set the bar low. I didn't expect Julien to put together a squad with heart.

Now back to the Habs..... Razz

I am just poking fun at you Habs fans. I watched a convincing Victory over the Isles today. Hammerdick looks great back there.....

I know that stupid Melrose said that the Habs were the best in the East. I was waiting for John Bucigross, Darren Pang, Bill Clement that other dude who announces for Phoenix now......to chime in. Just like good ol times on ESPN.

I say enjoy it. I think the Habs are a great surprise and I would be ecstatic if I were actually a fan.

There's another reason beyond the psychological factor that they keep beating our much improved Bruins. Let's give credit where it's due... they're a damn good team...

Yeah, after last season, THN really blasted the B's, and honestly, I thought it was well deserved. But you even out the points between Mtl and Bos, then standings-wise, there's not much different. I would argue that Mtl has more depth and more pieces (which is one of the reasons why they beat bos), but B's d-corp and top-line is pretty impressive and hey - what can you say about Thomas. He's a true Vezina candidate.

I always liked Julien too - although Carbo is definitely rounding into form, I disagreed with the dismissal of Julien at the time. He's kinda like Nolan, in that his teams play greater than the sum of its parts.

EDIT: btw - the Forecaster had Boston (and toronto, of course) ahead of the Habs.

I definitely thought that having the B's in last wasn't right. I didn't think that they would make the playoffs last year, but I didn't think that they would fall this far this season. I actually thought that this year they would have a better shot at making the playoffs than last year, but I can't pinpoint exactly why, just a feeling I guess. How they've battled through the injuries they've had(including to Manny, which I thought would be a good, albeit expensive acquisition and give the B's two goalies who could play 40-50 games without getting fatigued) has been great. Thomas has simply been fantastic, as has Julien's coaching and Chara's return to form.

Hmm... we're back to the Tim Sweeney, Clayton Beddoes rotation of shit LW's on the top line, and our D is still pedestrian IMO, but can't argue the results. And as for the Habs having more depth, you can thank the Flyers for that. Although, Providence is just raping the rest of the AHL, so I don't know if I'd agree re overall depth. Current depth, can't argue - Glen Metropolit and some 19 year old slav from Vancouver are on our second line lol...

Claude Julien is good at taking journeymen players and getting them to work in a system. Once the B's restock the team with talent, you'll be calling for CJ's head when he plays Phil the Thrill 4 minutes a night and moves Matt Lashoff from the D to the 4th line.
