to get into the playoffs. That's how I see it. They have 30 games left and I figure they need a min of 96 points to get in. Having 57 points right now, they need 39 more. I figure there are 12 games that should be forsure wins. Which means nothing really because nothing is forsure with this team. The rest of the games are up in the air. This isn't out of reach just yet. They need to turn it around right now if they think they'll even have a sniff of making it.
Is 96 points enough? Is this possible? |

I voted yes 96 points but I was comtemplating no. Its not because i lost faith in this team , imo , they have a legit doctors note this season. Too many injuries. And when we're relying on undrafted walk ons like Jaffray and 20 yr old kids like Raymond to rescue Naslund and the 2nd line.. its hurt'n.
But Im banking on Luongo to get fired up soon. Once he realizes his baby is going ot be ok , he'll pick up this team again and fight tooth and nail and grab the 8th seed...only to meet Detroit.

| I should also add Im banking on the Canucks to get healthy again too...enough to start garnering momentum. |

I'm voting 'Yes' simply because I want them to make it.
It was bad enough jumping on to the Flames and Oilers bandwagons but last year I couldn't even come up with the energy to care.
They HAVE to make it.
It's too much fun watching your team trying to win the cup.
They're not allowed to give up.
Personally, I don't think it's a bad thing to meet the favorite in the first round.
If we are going deep we have to meet them sometime.
It might as well be before we get banged up. |

Pretty much sums it up. The Canucks, Coyotes, and Predators (and by virtue of games in hand, the Blues) are virtually tied for that last playoff spot in terms of what they have to do to get there.
It'll be interesting to see how Colorado holds up this month with their injuries, as well as how Vancouver does with theirs. And how long does Anaheim stay back in 7th? _________________ "Oh my God. Sorry, I vote no. Too many injuries, distractions (Mrs. Luongo and her baby), no easy answers to the questions on offence, and honestly, I think the Phlegms, Wild, and Avs are better teams at this stage. And to win 67% of their games when the best they've done over a 20 game stretch is somewhere around .600, I think it's too much. _________________ ... Because the old one, is well, old.

Having a team that will either just make it or just miss - sounds like the Canucks!
I've got my rose-coloured, rye induced goggles on, but I do think we'll turn this around, get healthier, play better and make it - probably as the 6th seed.
Considering how shitty October and January were, it's amazing we're still talking about this. |

Agreed. Not only that NTW, but looking now through a glass half full scenario, despite the injuries and inconsistent play, as of today, the Canucks are 3 points shy of the division lead with 27 games left to play.
34-35 points should get them in so that would mean a record of like 14-6-7 or something to that effect.
In simple terms, turn some off those shootout losses into wins and that's the difference. |

Luongo looked great again (finally) last night. Although I am worried since his daughter is due in March - will that pull him away again? If his wife is having a difficult first pregnancy, I can't see him NOT be distracted when they need him the most... The games they've lost these last two or three weeks seem to be consistent in that they didn't get that ONE BIG SAVE from him at the most critical time.
Of course, with the d decimated as they are, they aren't getting any extra offense from their defensemen, and the forwards need to be a lot more responsible in their own end... I've noticed their breakouts looked horrible during that span.
As for being 3 points shy of the division lead, if memory serves me (and it usually doesn't), the Canucks were in the lead this time last year with Minnesota nipping at their heels... They came up a point short at the end of the day... All I'm saying is that for the Nucks to catch Minnesota or Calgary, not only do those teams have to struggle at some point (Calgary and Colorado have stumbled lately) but Vancouver has to make up ground during that time... Otherwise, teams ahead of them only have to play as well as the Canucks to retain the lead.
Great to see you back, LP... _________________ ... Because the old one, is well, old.

Giguere did fine after a very difficult child birth... Of course, Anaheim had Bryzgalov to turn to for the Minnesota playoff series and not Sanford... _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. | the good thing about this schedule is you just have to get within 3-5 pts of whatever spot your targetting by game 72 , caz the last 10 games are all div. throughout the league. So everybody in the NHL will "control their own desitny" if you can stay within striking distance. |

I would speculate that given his competitive nature and the determination he's displayed in the past to win, he'll be very focused on winning a Cup for his daughter.
His wife has apparently been on bed rest this past month which has made life a bit rocky. |

| With 24 games left I still say they will need 96 points to get in. They now need to 32 points. so wining 16 of 24 games is the goal. Which is still 67%. They arent gaining at all. |

21 games left, and they have 70 points. If they need 96 points, they need to win 13 of their last 21 games... That's about a 62% winning percentage (so far this year, they are at 57%, that's barely over .500 in the 3 pt. game era )
Sat. Feb. 23 Detroit
Wed. Feb. 27 Colorado
Fri. Feb. 29 Columbus
Sun. Mar. 2 at Chicago
Tue. Mar. 4 at Colorado
Thu. Mar. 6 Nashville
Sat. Mar. 8 St. Louis
Mon. Mar. 10 at Los Angeles
Wed. Mar. 12 at Anaheim
Thu. Mar. 13 at Phoenix
Sat. Mar. 15 at Dallas
Mon. Mar. 17 Phoenix
Thu. Mar. 20 at Edmonton
Fri. Mar. 21 Minnesota
Tue. Mar. 25 at Calgary
Wed. Mar. 26 at Colorado
Fri. Mar. 28 at Minnesota
Sun. Mar. 30 Calgary
Tue. Apr. 1 Colorado
Thu. Apr. 3 Edmonton
Sat. Apr. 5 Calgary
Those last nine games are all against NW division opponents... _________________ ... Because the old one, is well, old.

| I posted that from the Valentine's Day shootout with Minnesota to the March 12 game against Anaheim, the Canucks had a favorable schedule of 13 games with none on back to back nights. I felt they needed 10 wins or 20 pt in that time. They have taken 7 of a possible 8 points since then and need to win 6 of the upcoming 9 games. Of those games, only 3 teams are ahead of them in the standings. With the only key players out with injury being Morrison and Miller, winning 6 of 9 is very doable. It wouldn't clinch a playoff spot for the Canucks but would give them the luxury of having to win 7 of their final 12 to reach 96 pt and probably the watershed mark for making the playoffs. |

16 games left
74 points
22 points needed
They need to win 11 out of 16 to get to 96 points.
68.75 winning %
Not looking good.

That number doesn't seem very realistic any more because both Nashville and Colorado would pretty much have to have the same winning pct. just to stay with us.I expect 8th spot this year will more likely be around 92-93 points.I stll think our chances are slim, However I think they are better than percieved |

After soiling the sheets in Phoenix and Anaheim, the Nucks have 80 points after 71 games... If 96 is the magic number, they need 15 points in their last 11 games, or 15/22 = .681. Not an unreachable goal, yet given the complete lack of offensive confidence among all the forwards (except perhaps Kesler and Burrows), I don't know how they'll pull this off.
It's not looking good. But I didn't need to tell anyone that. _________________ ... Because the old one, is well, old.
