After a successful first attempt at being the GM for Canada's entry in the World Championship, Bob Nicholson has named Yzerman as the GM for the 2008 entry.

Ken Campbell thinks it's another step towards Yzerman becoming the GM of the Wings sooner rather than later.

While I agree that Yzerman may someday become the Wings' GM, I don't think that it's likely to happen as soon as Campbell thinks. Being a GM in an international entry is completely different than an NHL team. Kenny Holland was groomed through the scouting and management ranks of the organization for more than 15 years before becoming GM. While Yzerman will never get that kind of scouting background, I still think the Wings will be grooming him in for longer than a couple of years. If Holland does leave, the logical successor will be Nill(unless the Wings have their eyes set on someone else in the league), while still grooming Yzerman for the job with the tremendous talent that they have in the front office. This is just my opinion, of course. I could be completely wrong and Yzerman may have learned rdiculously fast and be ready in a couple of years, but that's not how the team usually does things. They put the people in place(players, management, etc...) when they know or feel that they're ready, not to see if they're ready.

Well, it depends which of Yzerman or Holland gets offered the Maple Leafs job first, right? The consolation prize is the Red Wings gig... right? Wink

Laughing Oh yeah, because as Richard Peddie says(and he never lies, right?), the Leafs GM job is the best in hockey!

So apparently Luc Robitaille is an assistant GM for Stevie Y on this year's squad. Luc's been the President of Business Ops with the Kings this year... interesting to see these guys pursue the management gigs.

Honestly, with the trend the way it is, I think Hull will be Team USA's GM for the 2010 Olympics.

He'd be a better choice than Don Waddell...Garth Snow?
