22 shopping days left!

Laughing

I have a lot of confidence in Cliff Fletcher making some terrific deals here that will land quality players / picks & greatly benefit the Leafs next season & well into the future.

Antropov is highly marketable, with having 1 year remaining on his deal. Tucker may be willing to waive the no-trade & return home to finish his career out in Calgary. McCabe I'm sure would consider a move to New York or Long Island, granted, should they be buyers - that of course is quite a long shot considering NYR's cap & the Isles below-par season. Kubina may be more difficult. Sundin would be welcome back, so I don't know what the big deal is for him? He has to move to another city/apartment for what, 4 months with a chance to win the Stanley Cup? C'mon Mats, don't be a bitch! Nobody has ever questioned his loyalty & he would most definitley be returning to a better Leaf team.

Man, wish Cliff would bring Pat Quinn back into the fold as well!

I would have given you a Snickers bar for Mark Bell, but then I looked and he has another year left on his deal.

He would have been a good addition for my beer league team's 3rd line during the stretch drive.

Just as long as you don't give the Snickers bar to Mark Bell. That's half the problem with him.

That and he can't come to Neds after the game either.

I want them to right off next year as well and then Mats can be traded and sign a one year extension. Need atleast a couple of years totaling 3-4 first rounders to kick start this thing.

Wouldn't that be great! Laughing They can peddle Mats off for some draft picks next week & then he can sign a 1 year deal w/ the Leafs in July. And then they can trade him again next season & then sign him again in July '09!

Now THAT'S how you build a Cup winner!

I was more implying Mats value is much greater if he comes to a new team with an extension agreed too. Mats doesn't like being pimped out once...not going to go for it two years running.

A solid 0-8 loss tonight at the hands of the Panthers, who move a few more pts ahead of the Leafs & only 21 shopping days left!!!!!!!! Surprised

LOOKING GOOD FOLKS! Only bad out of tonight's contest was that Raycroft was lit for 4 of the 8 goals, thus further reducing the chances he be plucked on re-entry waivers.

The schedule however is playing in our favor: Montreal on Thursday & Detroit on Saturday - both for sure losses for Toronto. And then 2 MUST LOSE games against Buffalo & Long Island, as they are dangerously close near the bottom of the East as well.

Out West, things are looking a little more sketchy.

Los Angeles won tonight, though are still behind at 48 points. Edmonton has been depleted w- injuries to key players & Chicago is still not living up to there mediocre expectations.

If I recall correctly however; a last place finish doesn't necessarily mean the 1st pick, no? Isn't there a draft lottery for the bottom 5 teams? I'll have to check on this ....

All non-playoff teams are in the lottery. However, you can only move up a maximum of 4(or maybe 5) spots. So, while the last place team only has 25% of the balls, they actually have a 50% or so chance to get the top pick because if any of 6(0r 7) to 14 come up, then they also get the top pick then as well while the team that wins the lottery just moves up.

Thanks man - I was just checking on that as well on NHL.com & wikipedia.

I'm just anxious for the trade deadline to see what trader Cliff can do!

Maybe we'll land Yanik Perrault! Shocked

Last place guarantees at least the #2 pick. You can only move down one spot from your standings.

So if you're the 3rd worst team, the worst you can pick is 4th.

Awesome! Of course, a top 5 pick is not a guarantee superstar. Leafs seemed to to there best drafting in recent history w/ late round picks, Berezin, Modin, Kaberle ... this of course was the work of Anders Hedberg who has since left ... (not even sure if he's even in the NHL still?).

Best 1st round pick since Wendel Clark in 85'?

Brad Boyes!

Enough said ....

If Cliff can convince Sundin to go to Anaheim you might get 2 top 5 picks...

Luke Schenn or Zach Bogosian. Doughty has been referred to as Bryan Berard but can play defense, but I think the Leafs really need a pick who they know will be very solid, if not great, in their own end. If they can trade down to do it and parlay a really high pick into more assets, even better.

Or if they luck out and win the lottery, Stamkos. Even then, trading that pick and getting some more assets would be excellent.

The Leafs need everything. They should choose the best player, period. Not by any specific need.

Is this supposed to be a good draft?

Yup, which is why I think that if the Leafs have a high pick and can turn it into more picks, it may not be a bad idea. There is something to be said for getting the best player when you need everything, but if you can get a sweet return for a high pick, still pick a great player while getting more assets, that's not a bad idea imho.

Yes. Next year is supposed to be pretty strong as well.

I thought I read somewhere that it's supposed to be a very good draft this year.

I don't disagree with that strategy, although you had implied that getting Doughty wasn't in their best interests because he's an offensive defensman, which I think is wrong headed if he clearly is the best player available for the team.

I hope they don't take Schenn, though. That would suck. Quit taking Saskatchewan born defensemen with your high picks!
