I don't disagree with that strategy, although you had implied that getting Doughty wasn't in their best interests because he's an offensive defensman, which I think is wrong headed if he clearly is the best player available for the team.

I hope they don't take Schenn, though. That would suck. Quit taking Saskatchewan born defensemen with your high picks!

Oh yeah, if the strategy of trading the really high pick to turn into more assets and still a great player in their trade-down position fails, and Doughty is clearly the best player available, then I think you take him.

Just don't go trading him for Tim Gleason.

Have we not reached the point where we want to keep him in the line up?

Cliff is even media friendly!

Yesterday, as he digested the Florida result, Fletcher declined to directly label the Leafs a deadline seller.

"Let's put it this way," he said. "We're not interested in any way in acquiring short-term help."

Mad

Man, if they could could get that 1st round pick Anaheim obtained from Edmonton ..... Sundin centering Bertuzzi & Selanne?

Andy Wozniewski has cleared waivers.

Suprising nobody picked him up for the Cup run!

Actually - I did think somebody would have picked him up ... oh wait, he was already on the Leafs.

Sportsnet.ca is reporting that Cliff Feltcher is poised to make his first move as Leaf GM & sign 22-year old forward; pint-sized prospect Linus Klasen to an entry-level contract.

Listed at 5'8 with great puck-handling and skating skills, Klasen draws obvious comparisons to established NHLers like Daniel Briere, Martin St. Louis, Brian Gionta.

Perhaps this may also pave the way for the signing of Fabian Brunnstrom.

Shocked

It's a start!

SHOOTING ACCURACY

Tomas Kaberle, 4-for-5

Kyle Wellwood, 4-for-6

Darcy Tucker, 4-for-6

The Pat Marleau rumours persist.

http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/sjs080212.html

If he is going to be moved, it's going to happen soon, as his 'no-trade' kicks into his contract next season.

As the above link is reporting, Toronto does certainly have some d-men that would make a good fit for the Sharks - and these two clubs have historically been trading partners dating back to the Todd Gill for Jaime Baker swap some time ago. (How's that for a good memory! Surprised )

This move makes even more sense should Cliff be able to have Mats waive his no-trade clause & ship him to Anaheim in exchange for that 1st round pick (which previously belonged to basement dwelling Edmonton Oilers) & Bobby Ryan and Mark Mitera or Bobby Bolt!

Shocked

That's right folks! If somebody can get this done, it's our buddy Trader Cliff!

"My belief is (Sundin) will only waive his no-trade to go to certain teams," the GM told Sun Media yesterday.

JFJ said last night that while he obviously had people asking about Sundin and Kabs he also had calls about Tucker and McCabe.

The latter two likely coming from Don Waddell. Rolling Eyes

Cliff certainly is tight-lipped as far his immediate plans are concerned. But it's no secret that his numerous phone calls and emails may entail "deals" in discussion.

One player he won't be able to move -- if I can believe a rival club's executive -- is Darcy Tucker.

"I wouldn't give my last draft choice in order to get him," was the way the fellow put it to me.

"It's not because he isn't an honest, hard-working player, but because he has lost it. The many wars against much bigger and tougher fellows are telling on him. He is trying hard, but he can't get there anymore."

I find it hard to believe that even a team deep in talent, wouldn't want Tucker on the 3rd/4th line during the playoffs.

Not to be overly defensive here on Tucker as I agree, he has been invisible more often than not over the course of the season, he is playing on a bum knee. however.

Yes, Tucker would be an all right addition to to a 3rd or 4th line for the playoffs. But the problem is that he's making $3 million a year for the next 3 years. Sometimes getting a guy on a deal that doesn't end on July 1st is a good thing, but in a case where you have a guy on the decline who will be on the 3rd or 4th line for the next 3 seasons(does he have a NTC too) with a bum knee, that contract is something most GMs will stay the hell away from.

Apparently he's been getting 20 minutes a night and time on the PK. I guess Fletch has passed the word that he wants Maurice to showcase him. That's not going to be good for Tucker's health Confused

Yeah in the OTP$ league I grabbed him last week thinking this situation had potential to happen. In a deep league I was surprised no one had had the same idea yet.

Tucker's goal scoring in the two seasons after the lockout was at a good pace, but a most of it was on the PP, and he isn't good defensively at all. That contract might have been decent had Tucker been able to stay healthy, but he hasn't this year and he hasn't been very effective on the ice. The Leafs are in a bind with his contract, much like they were before with Antropov. Right now, the Leafs probably can't get much in the way of return for him. If they wait and he returns to form next year, then he might get a return in dealing him, but do you deal him when he starts playing well(like Antro)?

You're right man .... Tucker has not played like a $3 million dollar player at any point this season. I've got to admit that I'll also be suprised if this dude is dealt.
