Another day, another absolute must-win or die failing game against a division rival.

As far as I know Emery gets the start. Maxim Lapierre's face has been put on notice. Hamrlik has a nasty virus and won't be in the lineup.

The Koivu-Higgins-Ryder line is on again. I'm guessing this is their last chance to prove they can play together.

Glad I missed this one. From the sounds of it, we just couldn't weather the inevitable early barrage with the big line back together and that's all that mattered.

Damn - can it be communicated any more emphatically that we're not quite they're yet?

Fuck you Ottawa.

Edit - and Hamrlik's contribution is extremely underrated.

Like I insinuated in the Vancouver/Colorado GDT... you can't hide deficinices on your D like you can at forward. Hamrlik's absence is worse than Healtey's. I won't say it's as bad as Alfie's for Ottawa, but that's a different level of compete.

But no ifs/ands/or whatever else about it.... Huet stopping 1 of 4 shots, no matter when or what manner they occur, is just unacceptable.

Apparently we hit 5 goalposts... so in the end, although it was a blowout, you gotta realize these teams aren't ridiculously far apart.

Get it together for the Florida road swing and don't let up. Good thing Philly lost today as well.

Goalposts don't count anymore than missing the post by an inch does. This isn't a game of horseshoes. Don't forget Roy loved his goalposts - because they weren't goals. Right now - each team is riding one line, and Ottawa's is better by a landslide.

Huet needs to rest. I don't understand why Carbo is riding him so early. I thought for sure Halak - who was more than serviceable last year - would play at least one game. Now we have Price back up with the team, when I think he could learn more (about himself) in the AHL.

Despite all the positives, Montreal still can't figure out how to best maximize their goaltending depth.

You can easily make the argument that Huet needs to rest everytime he loses... or you can make the argument that since he was coming off a rare night off, he shouldn't have been rested against Toronto. You can't argue with Huet's performance since coming back from injury with only... what, 3 games off in that span?

It has nothing to do with a loss or the immediate past. It has everything to do that his history has indicated that he might be fragile, and Halak has shown to be able to play in the NHL. With Halak on the bench, we only saw Huet, night after night. If we were fighting for a playoff spot, then I might understand, but we're not. Halak should have started a couple of games.

Now we have to throw in Price, and I'm not certain that Price has turned the corner in confidence and experience. He was riding a wave last year, but that wave hit the beach. Now it's time to start learning the next phase of the trade. But more to the point, I don't see a reason why we couldn't have rested Huet with Halak.

Apparently they've cut down his practice time to 40% of practices, because he goes all out in them and they think that might be a reason for his constant injuries.

In that month long stretch of games, he didn't play on back-to-back nights. It was an easy schedule... play Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday nights. It was clockwork, routine. Nothing that stresses the body for peak conditioned athletes. It's a big part of the reason we went on a run.

At the beginning of the year, there were more kinks in the schedule that allowed the backup to play a lot more. This past month was so easy it made no sense not to put your best chance of winning out there at every opportunity.

I don't think it was only due to the schedule, otherwise, that would have meant Halak starting against NYR last Sunday. Carbo got caught up in the frenzy of going for top spot in the conference. IMO, we're going to finish 4th, at best. What we need to do is help Boston finish 5th.

At that point, the decision had already been made to do the Halak/Price swap after that game, so I think it was more a reward/bonus game for Huet.

Anywho... let's see how Ottawa reacts long term to getting their top line back together without solving their goaltending issues and how Montreal reacts to their worst losing stretch since November when we all thought the season was lost.

Huet is entitled to an off night. He's been solid up until this point and there's nothing from that game that suggests to me it was nothing more than an aberration.

Also, the Sens top line are 1-2-3 in PPG this season, so you can imagine how excited they must have been to be reunited.

It was a bad game, but I thought the Habs played better after the first and they're not going to fall off any time soon.

I don't actually think Huet had an off night. The third goal was pathetic, yeah. But the first looked to be a pretty good screen and deflection, while the second goal was just a good passing play. I don't want him tiring out in the playoffs.

Ottawa is still the class of the conference and I can't imagine any team beating them in a 7 game series.

Washington would sweep them in 4. Laughing

A lot of teams can beat Ottawa in 7... I'm not sure we're one of them, though. Hopefully someone else does it for us and we beat that team. Laughing
