There had been rumblings about a Carolina/Ottawa trade but a lot of people believed it surrounded Erik Cole, so be thankful Rutherford has more sense than that.

Eaves is a bit of a risk, but I like the fit of Corvo in Carolina.

Stillman and Commodore are good short term pieces for Ottawa.

The Hurricanes need to make a shakeup. This does that, at least.

I wouldn't say that's a fire sale. Corvo is a decent offensive D-man and Eaves is a good young player. The two guys that you traded were due to be UFA, while Corvo has 2 years left on his deal and Eaves is an RFA.

This doesn't make the Canges better defensively, just like the Samsonov pickup, so it certainly is an odd move. Is the objective to lose games 5-3 instead of 4-2? Confused

Agreed, Sask. This is a good win-now move for Ottawa while freeing up cap space for next year. Maybe a Redden extension?

You honestly think a contract extension with Redden is even possible after Murray has asked him to waive his NTC twice in a year?

They don't want Redden back, he's not a franchise defenceman anymore.

Stillman is a wuss, but he puts up good numbers and should roll nicely on the non-existent second line. Not sure what to make of Eaves, his upside is questionable.

Corvo is a great defenceman, but the Sens have the depth on D to make a trade like that. I'd say the free cash will go to keeping Meszaros and acquiring a second-line forward. I'm not sure the Sens are done yet.

Eaves hasn't done anything since his concussion in last year's playoffs from the Colby Armstrong hit. His future is definitely questionable, that's why I labelled him a risk.

Real wishy washy on the Canes behalf.

Seems like they are saying this year is not the year but these slightly worse players for next year will help us contend?

This is bullshit. We're still in the running for the playoffs so what do we do trade away a tough defensemen and one of our best forwards. I don't know how this makes us better defensively and I'm not sure how this really helps the PP either.

I'd much rather trade that floater Cole for a bag of pucks than this bullshit trade.

I see this as a clear win for Carolina. Eaves still has potential, and is a shit disturber. Corvo is a very good defenseman, and will fit in well in Raleigh. Commodore is nothing more than a 5-6 D man, and Stillman is chronically overrated. Rutherford did well...
