Will apparently make Souray's shot look very normal.
Yannic Weber wins OHL Hardest shot competition with 99.2 MPH shot
Pavel Valentenko wins Hamilton Bulldogs hardest shot competition with 102 MPH shot
Also of note in that hardest shot competition for the Bulldogs was that winger Matt D'Agostini recorded a 101 MPH blast.
P.K. Subban and Alexei Emelin are widely known for their hard slapshots as well, so this could just be the tip of the iceberg in that regard.
I'm wavering on whether to keep Streit because of how much he might cost and the myriad of options we have behind him. If we could bring Emelin over, I think we'd have 2 NHL ready rookies on the team next training camp, plus O'Byrne as an option (although his legal situation is mudding the waters quite a bit). Not to mention the fact that there has already been talk of McDonagh turning pro early.
It's amazing to think our blueline depth a year ago was a huge concern.

So no one wants to do any future prognosticating here? It's a bit of a what if game, but it's fun in the sense that I don't think there are many bad answers.
Streit's value is kind of hard to define. I'd like to think we can sign him for 3 years at $2.5m per... Joe Corvo type money.
But you have potentially 4 young NHL ready d-men behind him in Gorges, O'Byrne, Valentenko, and Emelin if he can be brought over. At the tail end of that extension, you possibly have any combination of McDonagh, Subban, Fischer, Carle and Weber battling for spots.
In theory, the only time we should ever be forced to acquire a d-man from outside the organization is if there's a major injury to one of our Big 3.
Do you sign Streit thinking you can always just convert him to forward or trade him down the line if an in house replacement comes in? Because in reality, we could just be signing him to help us out for 1 or 2 more years. I suppose there's a lot of value in that short term stability.
And after last night's debacle, the idea of giving our bottom 4 more ice time is just terrifying.

If O'Byrne is as good at snatching pucks as he is purses he'll be a top-4 blueliner for sure!

As long as we get rid of Brisebois everything is alright with me. 
The Habs will have a bright future that's for sure. But not just on defence.
The big question is if Gainey will re-sign Streit at 3 mil per. He's a bottom 2 d-man on the Habs. |
