LAST IN THE EAST, 29TH OVERALL IN THE LEAGUE & ONLY 11 SHOPPING DAYS LEFT!
The only thing I can compare this excitement to is Christmas .... And Cliff Fletcher is Santa!
Mats Sundin holds the key to the Leafs' future!
Should the losing ways continue the next few contests, I can only imagine that Mats will get increasingly pissed & frustrated with the lack of talent around him & finally say, screw this .... and agree to a trade to Anaheim in where he will center a line with Bertuzzi & Selanne.
Anaheim in turn will send Edmonton's 1st round pick in this year's draft to Toronto along with Bobby Ryan & Mark Mitera or Bobby Bolt.
One of Pavel Kubina, Tomas Kaberle or Bryan McCabe (all with no-trade clauses) will then be shipped out west to anchor the blueline for the San Jose Sharks with Pat Marleau (also with a no-trade clause kicking in next season) going over to Toronto in where he will center the top line for the remainder of the season. He will then be bumped down to the 2nd line for the following season with imminent return of Mats Sundin.
IT IS YOU .......

If Sundin could land us Edmontons 1st and Ryan I would be thrilled with that alone.
As a team rebuilding I want nothing to do with Marleau. If Kabs goes he also could land a 1st and solid prospect which I'd rather have. Marleau types are not traded for unless your a deadline team making a push, those types you pick up as free agents if you really mush have one.
McCabe and Kubina I would move for what ever I could get just to have their salary off the books in a year and a half to sign usefull players when we are ready to make a push out of the cellar. _________________ psssssssssssssshhh....bing bong ping bong bing bong...pssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhh. |

I also saw on Thefourthperiod.com this morning that Dallas may be interested in aquiring Jason Blake? Rumours are just that, but who knows!
Needless to say, there was a lot of scouts at last night's contest! _________________

| Dallas doesn't have NEAR enough cap room to take on Blake's salary. |

The cap should be in excess of $55m next year, so everyone has some kind of cap space. Dallas will have close to $20m for 8-10 players.... but might lose Miettinen and Hagman to UFA as they've been cheap and have had good years. Plus, Norstrom's a UFA. Guerin's buyout comes off the books for them as well.
But they don't actually want Blake. Don't be silly, people, no one wants that contract.
And Burke won't trade two top 5 picks for Sundin as a rental. _________________ It's backwards time. |

You might be right, but look what Smyth, Tkachuk & Forsberg fetched last season.

Does Dallas have any contracts that expiry this or next year that they would like to shed?
Hey didn't realize Ryan was a second overall. Does he still value that high or has he slipped at all? On top of that what direction is Edmonton going in as they are currently tied for sixth last.
Anyways as I said if such a package was available for Sundin I'd be thrilled, not saying I think it is. Maybe if he extended for a year as part of a deal? _________________ psssssssssssssshhh....bing bong ping bong bing bong...pssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhh. |

Courtesy TSN:
DALLAS
RFA: Steve Ott, Loui Eriksson, Trevor Daley, Niklas Grossman.
UFA: Stu Barnes, Antti Miettinen, Niklas Hagman.
Top Prospects:
Ivan Vishnevskiy, D, Rouyn-Noranda (QMJHL), 19
14-21-35, plus-18 in 33 GP
Konstantin Pushkarev, LW, Iowa (AHL), 22
7-12-19, plus-5 in 25 GP
James Neal, LW, Iowa (AHL), 20
5-7-12, minus-7 in 34 GP
Chris Conner, LW, Iowa, 24
6-12-18, minus-3 in 27 GP
Vojtech Polak, LW, Karlovy Vary (Czech.), 22
1-0-1 in 1 GP
Other Players of Interest: Jussi Jokinen, Joel Lundqvist, Mark Fistric.
The Plan:
Once the Stars get their defence corps back to full strength, this well-balanced squad could simply use another scorer to provide better balance on the top two lines. While the Stars' farm system isn't exactly bursting at the seams, there is enough attractive young talent on the roster to make a significant acquisition, if only co-GMs Les Jackson and Brett Hull can pull the trigger.
-----
No question they could use a scoring winger. Blake has 4 yrs remaining on his deal at $4 million per & Dallas was thought to be a team of interest prior to his signing with Toronto.
I'm sure the return for him would be signifcantly low, but it would be good to get that salary off the books. _________________

If they were serious about moving up, they'd make this move permanent. If they were serious about tanking, Raycorft would've been starting the past few games and for this game Clemmensen would've been called up to replace him as the starter.
But the Leafs remain stuck somewhere in the middle. _________________ It's backwards time. |

Well .... no shit.
I was just watching a TSN.CA video w- John Fergusson & he seems to think that Sundin will indeed waive the no-trade & will be in either Anaheim, Calgary or Detroit. Furthermore, McCabe will agree to move to Long Island (or somewhere East).
Take it as you will, but given the fact Fergusson worked so recently with the above; what he says certainly must hold more credibility then the rest of the media.

Dude is only committed from now to end of playoffs...I would think his list would almost cover every team that would be in the hunt anyways. _________________ psssssssssssssshhh....bing bong ping bong bing bong...pssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhh. |

Who's Andy Strickland!?
And the flu!? Well we know Sundin & McCabe met w- Fletcher & I'm sure he now has a list handy & now evaluating what will be offered up.
As far as Kubina, he has some odd clause in his contract apparently that if the Leafs do not make the playoffs this season, the "no trade" is void for something like a 2 month window? I can't confirm that - but did read it somewhere. If this is however indeed true, I expect Fletcher has advised Kubina he has a choice to go to a contender right now or he will be dealt in the Summer.
Man, this is fuckin' exciting!
How about Antropov to Phoenix in exchange for Daniel Carcillo!?
Now THAT would kick ass! My gut tells me Wayne would be strongly against that however.
