New forward lines:

A Kostitsyn - Plekanec - Kovalev
Latendresse - Koivu - S Kostitsyn
Higgins - Lapierre - Dandenault
Begin - Smolinski - Kostopolous

As for the D, no word on a Hamrlik appearance, but O'Byrne participated in his first full practice with the team. He has been skating for a long time, as his injury is just a broken thumb, but he's still not ready to return to the lineup.

Looks like no Hamrlik tonight as well.

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2008/02/06/canadiens_scoring/print/

Also of note, Carbo seems to be leaning towards sending O'Byrne to Hamilton for conditioning.

So the second half of the lineup goes (forwards in post above):

Markov - Komisarek
Gorges - Streit
Bouillon - Brisebois

Price
(Huet)

Price gets his first NHL start in over a month and Huet gets a rest after starting 13 straight. Price is 3-0 this year vs. Toronto.

Hold up... TSN is reporting that Bouillon is a gametime decision. That could mean we see a Dandenault-Brisebois pairing tonight and Ryder draws in. Shocked

Good thing it's against the Leafs, right?

The Habs are hot to Trotter, as they just signed the pint-sized Denver Pioneers forward:

Straight Outta College, may he not become the next Junior Lessard.

Undersized DU alum forwards have a knack for not making it in the NHL, just ask Connor James, Gabe Gauthier, Ryan Dingle, etc. Certainly rooting for him though.

http://www.cyberpresse.ca/article/20080211/CPSPORTS0101/802110534/5128/CPSPORTS01

La Presse article on Trotter.

Says the story is he was kicked off the DU team, but no one would confirm that. There was a lot of interest in him after he got the boot and every team was faxed about his available services, according to Jason Arnott's bro/Trot's agent.

Says he's small, talented. Call him a one-way offensive player similar to Ray Whitney. Has the potential to eventually play in the NHL, so the Habs aren't expecting miracles.

The Habs considered drafting the guy, but decided they could just sign him anyways. Scout Vaughn Karpan spoke to his family - classy touch.

Kovalev wasn't at practice today with a bum ankle. Supposedly he will play tomorrow vs. Philly. Gorges stayed at home, sick. Hamrlik will play, Price will start.

It seems like if the following 6 d-men are healthy, they will play every game from here on out: Markov, Komisarek, Hamrlik, Bouillon, Gorges, and O'Byrne. Seems that way, but who knows. It's tough to sit Gorges after the season he's had, but I'd still like to see Streit back there with Hamrlik. The choice seems to be that because he doesn't want to bench any of those 6, Carbo will dress Streit as a forward.

We need a 3rd centre, though. Lapierre has regressed IMO and I can definitely see why we want him as a winger down the line. I don't trust Smoke with a larger role, so this to me is the obvious area in which we should be looking from outside the organization for help.

Supposedly SI was linking us to Halpern, but what the hell does SI know anyways? Dallas wants to trade veteran checkers for the playoffs? Seems illogical, even with Hull in charge.

Anyways, there are some interesting names out there.

They desperately need the cap room and I could see Hull dumping what he sees as overpayment for a checking center. Guess we'll see when deadline day comes.

We just signed former 2nd round pick Ben Maxwell. The guy can't stay out of the sick ward, but he has major offensive skills.

Grabovski didn't like being scratched vs. Phoenix. He left the team to go to LA to meet with his agent, who talked with the coach and things must've smoothed over. The Habs aren't going to discipline him, but he's still not playing today vs. LA. Halak will start, Dandenault goes back to the press box after playing one game vs. Phoenix. Tom Kostopolous draws in against his old team.

A Kostitsyn - Plekanec - Kovalev
Higgins - Koivu - S Kostitsyn
Streit - Lapierre - Ryder
Latendresse - Smolinski - Kostopolous

Markov - Komisarek
Hamrlik - O'Byrne
Bouillon - Gorges

Halak
(Price)

Looks like tomorrow's lineup vs. St. Louis will be the same as the one vs. the Islanders barring sickness/unforseen injury, and that includes Halak in net.

Tomorrow marks the last time we'll see a non-divisional opponent until the playoffs, and who knows... we might get Boston in Round 1 if we finish strongly.

A Kostitsyn - Plekanec - Kovalev
Latendresse - Koivu - Ryder
Higgins - Grabovski - S Kostitsyn
Streit - Smolinski - Kostopolous

Markov - Komisarek
Hamrlik - Brisebois
Bouillon - Gorges

Halak
(Price)

Not really, but no fault of Hammer. Laughing

Against the Isles, when it was still 0-0, I was fuming a lot at Breezer. O'Byrne is way better, and O'Byrne is our #6 in reality.

The thing is Breezer needs to play occasionally, because if one of our good Dmen go down, Breezer will be expected to jump in.

Why not play him in the Isle/Blues games?

I agree. I don't try and read too much into it, but it sucks for O'Byrne.

The flip side of it is that those are the kinds of teams in which we could play O'Byrne close to 20 minutes.

Well, hopefully that's it for Brisebois, even though he played a much better game tonight.

In other news, we signed J.T. Wyman, a 4th round pick in 2004 to a two year contract. He had a big senior year. He's big and can skate, but is definitely a lower-tier prospect, hoping he can catch on eventually as an energy player.
