Moose update:

Adam Wazny wrote:
The last few days have been frustrating times for the local American Hockey Leaguers, tales of woe dominating the news as three of their offensive go-tos have been left in Winnipeg to tend to injuries. Wingers Jason Jaffray (wrist), Jozef Balej (knee) and Ryan Shannon (knee) will not be available for their usual power-play time and extended shifts this week, replaced by unfamiliar ECHL names like Mike Vigilante and Scott May.

And Mason Raymond.

The young pro was on the flight to O'Hare International yesterday morning, returning to Manitoba from the parent Vancouver Canucks. Though it's assumed the speedster will pick up the slack left by the three wounded Moose, that is not a given these days. Raymond has struggled and he'll need to break out of a recent slump, as one point in nine games with the Canucks brought an abrupt end to his audition at the NHL level. At least for now.

"Mike Vigilante." Awesome. Twisted Evil

To be totally honest I could care less about the Moose win-loss record, but I like to see the progression of our key prospects. Grabner, Simek and Bourdon all seemed to have played well in their time there. Schneider has yet to find his groove, but I'm really looking to the 2nd half for him to step it up.

Drew MacIntyre is named one of Canada's goalies in the AHL all-star game. Not bad for a guy who wasn't even projected to be the Moose's starter this year:

Do Europeans play for "PlanetUSA"? Be curious to see if Grabner makes it.

Yes, Euros play with the Americans on the Planet USA squad.

Moose goaltender Drew MacIntyre scored the winning goal in OT to give the Moose a 2-1 victory over Chicago tonight.

Yes, you read that right. Laughing

Moose website wrote:
With a penalty pending for Manitoba, Chicago opted for an extra attacker and pulled their goaltender in overtime Wednesday night. But the errant puck made its way off a Wolves stick and into the empty net, securing a 2-1 OT win for the Moose. As the last Moose player to touch the puck, goaltender Drew MacIntyre was awarded the game-winning goal as well as the win.

Niittymaki got an OT winner a couple years back in the AHL as well.

Ah, cool, I was going to ask if it had ever happened in NAmerican pro hockey before...

Shocked

Some good news for Canuck fans, an update on Schneider; this by way of Mooger35 from cc:

Apr: GAA:0.91, Sv%:0.963, Record:3-1-0, SO:1

With 3 games left for the Moose, Schneider sits 5th in the AHL for GAA.

After a less than auspicious beginning, Schneider has been on a tear...

I'm guessing this means Sanford is gone; McIntyre will be given a chance to back up Luongo on the big club, and Schneider will be given the #1 job; dunno if Julien Ellis is ready to be moved up yet or not... I believe he did get called up once or twice when needed... Damned I wish I had gone to Peoria to watch them play.

That is an insane learning curve. Definitely bodes well.

(Though Razz will say he's a "bust" because of his jersey, even if he comes from Boston).
