According to what Mathias Brunet reports in the daily La Presse, the Habs have ordered pieces of equipment in team colors for the Atlanta Thrashers forward.

Brunet, who mentions the names of Michael Ryder and Mark Streit as the potential price for Bob Gainey, specifies however that such an order doesn't mean that the deal is in the bag.

Hossa, who earns $7 million, has amassed 53 points in 58 games this season.

Is this the same source that told us Ryder was leaving the locker room with his equipment last week? Rolling Eyes

No imminent Hossa trade... trade talks are likely on hold until the weekend. Waddell is "in full coach mode" today and not taking any calls, and he'll try a last pitch at signing him tomorrow before proceeding on any trade offers.

Why would anyone want Hossa at that price,Hossa,s name should be in the dictionary beside the word overpaid,If I was Montreal,I'd be going after Jokinen or Richards or LeCavalier ahead of Marion,Which by the way is a girls name,He has less points than both Sedins and yet he makes as much as both combined,I would much rather have Ryder and Streit on my team.jmho

Some he hasn't. He had a couple with Ottawa where I remember watching him and he was dominant.

Actually, check out his stats. If you go by those, he actually has. Then again he's also tanked it in the postseason as well.

I guess for that price it wouldn't be a bad pickup...the only question is whether Gainey wants a player who is most assuredly a rental-only acquisition.

We have the cap room to keep Hossa beyond this year. We probably don't have the cap room to keep both Hossa and Huet, though. And obviously if Streit is going the other way, we wouldn't be keeping him around.

This would hurt our defensive depth for a long post-season run. That's my biggest concern... it makes Brisebois our undisputed #7 d-man. Mad

Why do you guys need more offence anyway?,You would be far better off getting a shutdown D-man or two.IMO Montreal is one of the best teams in the league when it comes to offence Confused

I told you so!

Translation: It was Marcel's equipment, not Marian's, and the Habs and Rangers have the same colours. Laughing

I'm with you on that. I don't know if we need exactly a shutdown D per se, because even another puckmover would do the job.

Any move that helps us have more puck possession 5 on 5 is a good one. We actually give up more shots than we take ourselves, which isn't good. We need the puck more.

Hossa can help in that regard, but not as much as getting a top 4 D could, IMO.

There also is the "keeping up with the Joneses" part of this... and in this case, Ottawa are the Jones. If they added Hossa to that team they have... we're absolutely no match. And we're behind them in head-to-head matchups as is.

Laughing Laughing To tell ya trhe truth,I don't think Ottawa is going to make it out of the first round anyway,They are a team in disarray and seem to have a lot of problems gelling as a team this year imo Whereas Montreal imo is starting to look like the team to beat,So much power,If they can strengthen their Defense than I can't see anyone stopping their quest for their 1 billionth cup Rolling Eyes

The reason we're considering adding a marquee forward is because good teams can shut down a hot line in the playoffs. We've seen it countless times before. If we can spread the O around, we'll be that much harder to contain, and it will take pressure off the Plexo-Kovy-Andrei line.

Still, I do think we need to shore up our defensive depth, but I get the feeling Gainey is content now that Hammer is healthy and O'Byrne is back.

That was a scary four games without the Hammer, though, which could have changed his mind.

If all we have to deal for Hossa is one prospect/pick and two pending UFA's, then we have more than enough chips to also acquire some defensive help in the form of a rental.

Hejda from Columbus would be worth looking into.
