Some cute Kiwi singing a cover of one of my favourite songs. It's not meant to be a happy song, but I like what she did with it. I always assumed the song to be un-coverable.

And the original, if you're not familiar with the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hv0azq9GF_g&feature=related

Kate Bush is the shit.

Just found out my soldier boy is getting deployed to Iraq soon. He said he hopes he'll get leave so he can come home before he goes. But he doesn't know.

Oh my god Patty that's awful. I'm so sorry. I hope he gets the leave to come home and see you.

Thank you.

Totally posted this in the wrong thread. I'm really bad at clicking the right links lately.

Shocked

Some lame ass cover of 99 Red Balloons.

Why are there bands who think they can do classic songs better than the original. Umm. wait - that's not to say that there aren't some great covers that ended up better than the original - However, THIS IS NOT ONE!

The Goldfinger version? Laughing

Almost any cover of the Cure is better than the original...

What, you mean the slowed down cover of "Lovesong" by 311? Laughing

In Nick Hornby High-Fidelity fashion, here are my top-5 covers (off the top of my head):

5. Jeff Buckley doing Genesis' "Back in NYC" (Never liked "Hallelujah")
4. Joe Cocker doing Leonard Cohen's "First We Take Manhattan" (brief mention to "With A Little Help From My Friends")
3. The Rolling Stones doing Dylan's "Like A Rolling Stone"
2. Harry Nilsson doing Fred Neil's "Everybody's Talkin"
1. Sam Cooke doing Dylan's "Blowin' in the Wind"

After listening to Bryan Ferry's crummy Dylanesque album, can we please stop it with the Dylan/Beatles/Depeche Mode covers? I'm looking at you, Tori Amos.

Jeff. My heart is breaking over your Cure burn

If it hadn't been for my love of the Cure, I would have had no place to take refuge from the crappiness that is being a 17 year old girl.

I still have a HUGE place in my heart for The Cure. Robert Smith was and is one of the coolest people EVER! Who else could have helped the kids from South Park battle the evil Barbara Streisand? Who else could have Ra-sham-bo'd Cartman?

Sorry Maureen, I've just heard enough cure covers to have an opinion that the Cure have some great songs, but they're far greater when played by other bands Smile

Man... could Tori's album a few year's back be any more of a copy of Cat Power's The Covers Record? Unfortuantely, Cat Power stretched herself with Jukebox, but that first one, The Covers Record, kicked ass.

Saw "Reign Over Me" this weekend. While the film itself exceeded my very low expectations (even though I'm a huge fan of Don Cheadle's...local boy don'tchaknow) the highlight for me was the Pearl Jam cover of "Love Reign o'er Me." Good stuff, and I'm not a huge fan of either the Who or PJ...

And The Cure rules, BTW.

One of many Smile

I haven't heard Lit's cover of "Pictures of You", but I'll give the Cure the benefit of the doubt on that one Laughing

By far the worst cover that I've ever heard was a live cover of Stand by Me by Led Zeppelin. Holy shit...Robert Plant doing BBKing...thankfully I lost that song in a hard drive crash.

Well now......I pop this in and I am immediately teleported back to the Mid 1980s....when AC/DC rocked. I never really liked AC/DC but I am so hard up for some good ol rock that I even bought this. Not too bad if you take it for what it is.....a good ol fashioned necker beer drinking CD. And there's nothing wrong with that sometimes. Bang Camaro is on order............

Even if it is Goldfinger's cover of 99 Red Balloons that Maureen hates, their 8-song cover album Darren's Coconut Ass was 10 bucks well spent!

Failure covering Enjoy The Silence by Depeche Mode is still one of my favorite covers. Matthew Good Band's version, however, is not Laughing It was much better live than on Lo-Fi B-Sides or the Hello Time Bomb single.

Speaking of Failure, I had no idea A Perfect Circle's cover of The Nurse Who Loved Me was a cover...

A Perfect Circle's cover album Emotive can be pretty fucking wierd. The cover of Zep's When The Levee Breaks is really different and kinda cool.

Tool's version of my favorite Zeppelin tune, No Quarter, is awesome.

I used to have an I Mother Earth cover of Forty-Six and Two. I think that was lost in the hard drive crash too.

To combat the boredom I downloaded 2 live Barenaked Ladies concerts.

One full length one from Buffalo (Lewiston, actually), last summer, which I missed. Smile
