Thought I'd have a nice little thread to brag about myself...rather than just do it randomly all over OTP as I normally do. Wink
Well as some may or may not know I've been working on losing weight the last three months. I am happy to report that when I started on Nov 28th I was a pleasantly plump 211lbs and today I weigh 179lbs. I am rather pumped as 180 was my original target and I had started with a goal to get there by june 1st. Turns out I had farther to go than originally thought and likely need to get down closer to 170lb, but will slow down a little and let that come over the next couple of months rather than maintain the 10lbs a month loss I've been on. _________________ It's not you Sundin, it's me...please just leave...and don't look back....please please do not look back. |

I started a diet on January 5th, where I was at 230lbs. I am hoping to be at 195 by July 1st.
I am at 220, right now, but I am not doing as drastic a weight loss. I'm keeping to low fat and watching my portion sizes, and every so often have a few treats. _________________

Through all of december(Holiday excluded:wink: ) I calorie counted everything I ate looking to be about 1800 calories a day and basicly that taught me what to eat and how much and since the new year been just using the habits learned then. I also do cardio almost everyday I don't play hockey, started doing half hour elipticals at the beginning for about 350-400 cals and not I do 45 minute elipical runs for 600-900 cals a day. Hockey I estimate to be around 400 cals for the hour I play. In the last month I also do weights and core strenght stuff with the exercise ball three to four days a week for twenty minutes. My weight stuff is far from ideal as I'm clueless and doing it all from home but in the summer when my son is a little older I'll start going to a gym and get shown proper weight and strength building routines.
This is the calorie count site that really got me off on the right foot.

P.S
I have replace Beer with diet ginger ale and Crown royal, maybe have a single beer every two weeks...but once the loss stage switches to maintain I should be able to enjoy a few more here and there. _________________ It's not you Sundin, it's me...please just leave...and don't look back....please please do not look back. |

Holy shit Hounsy! Are you sure your real name isn't John Skinner?
My brother switched from beer to diet ginger ale and crown when he started working on his black belt for karate. He ended up turning about 35 - 40 pounds into muscle.
I thought he was an idiot - he is my brother after all, and I've never heard of anyone doing that!
By the way - THAT'S AWESOME!!!! CONGRATULATIONS! GOOD JOB! |

It's about 150cal less than a beer with 1oz shots of Crown so replace five beers a week with crown and ginger equal 750 cals a week which is about .2 lbs of fat which is about 10lbs over a year. _________________ It's not you Sundin, it's me...please just leave...and don't look back....please please do not look back. |

I've been working out since November, largely to get in shape for tennis, baseball and golf this year. By the end of last summer my batting average dropped about 50 points and I attributed it to poor conditioning. I was playing baseball 2-3 times week, golf at least once a week, and tennis 4 nights a week.
I haven't lost too much weight, but I definitely have stronger muscles and more endurance.
The problem was my wrists were gimpy from carpal tunnel, and my elbow/shoulders were weak from wonky pitching mechanics, so I had to go easy the first month or so.
I haven't cut the fat from my diet (to be fair I don't eat that much), but I had to cut the beer to once a week. Now I drink mostly wine - I always buy a 15 dollar dep bottle whenever I go to friends' places. You get drunk way faster, but the hangovers are tough (ironically making getting to the gym in the morning all the more difficult).
Started at about 6'1, 230. I'm down to about 220, but I did gain a few pounds of muscle. I hope to be 200 by May. Just have to work on getting rid of the beer belly. _________________ It seems like you need to be a physics professor to choose the right TV. Luckily, I am one.

Wow seems like wait loss is an OTP thing the last few months good job dudes. Oh I'm 5'10".
My lateral quicks in the crease have increased greatly and on top of just the less weight to lug around help the lower weight means less tendinitis issues and in turn allows me to use a sharper edge on my skates. _________________ It's not you Sundin, it's me...please just leave...and don't look back....please please do not look back. |

I'm 6' & weighed-in at 237 the 1st of the year.
Today, I am 237.
Okay, okay ....
I'm glad you stared this thread Hounsy, as I was going to start a "Big Boy's" thread sometime ago after Tommyboy posted something about high blood pressure on the old OTP & when I noticed a once loose pair of pants no longer fit me.
To further complicate things, my friend & I were laying on the couch not long ago & she reached over & squeezed my breast.
I immediately exclaimed HEY! And then felt violated, yet strangely aroused. She then reassured me by saying Butch, you are as manly as a male can be.
Nonetheless, I am the fattest I have ever been & need to drop 30lbs. It’s a shame really. With the physique & genetics I have been blessed with, I have the potential to be cut like a Greek God.
Beer is the biggest culprit. One 12 once can of Miller Lite is 100 calories. I slam down 6 to 10 & then chase it with a pizza and/or wings .... That's why I'm so freakin' tubby! And those are empty calories – probably why we all eat after slamming down some brew.
I eat nutritious during the day. Smoothies, which consist of ice cubes, a cup of low-fat, pro-biotic vanilla yogurt, a cup or so of mixed berries & a scope of whey protein powder. Wheat bread, raw almonds – but once evening roles around, I’m eager to crack open a brew & have 2 hot pastrami sandwiches layered w- cheddar.
So my modest goal I set at the beginning of the year: 7 pounds per month, so I could be an even 200 by the end of May. Presently, I’m 230, so I have a ways to go! It does give me a little encouragement reading the success that you folks have had. I mean, It will be warm out before we know it & I don’t want to have to wear a white t-shirt when I go swimming & telling people it’s ‘cause I don’t want to get sunburned!
(I don’t know if that was just a New England thing, but I remember back when I was young, all the tubby kids would wear white t-shirts when they would go swimming & say it was because they didn’t want to get sunburned! )
Anyhow - keep up the good fight folks & keep us all advised of your continued progress!

I don't do this anymore, but a few years ago, this was my diet typically once a week:
About 1,000 calories of whatever I ate during the day
6 Miller Lites & figure a couple of dark beers tossed in as well, modestly estimate 1,200 calories in brew alone.
And then -
(Pulled this off from Domino's Pizza website):
One loaf of cheese breadsticks: 960 calories 48 grams of fat
Marinara dipping sauce: 25 and --
Garlic dipping sauce: 440 and 49
20 hot wings: 2,100 and 140
So just that meal itself, we're talking 3,525 calories & 237 grams of fat.
If I kept this up, I could audition for one of those fat-people shows on the Discovery/Learning channel.
Looking at that again, how many grams make a pound? What is that above? 1/2 pound of fat alone!?

The g/f is seriously thinking about trying out that new Alli pill, apparently it will increase weight loss by 50% but there are some rather, uh, messy side effects we read about if you don't keep very careful track of your fat intake. There was also one that began with the letter "O" or something like that, got very good reviews from a number of websites, as did Alli.
But some of these diet pills scare the living shit out of me, one pill she looked up last night seemingly advertised proudly that the effects are similar to cocaine. Christ...
I'm currently at 178 or so and want to drop to around 160-165 this summer. We'll see how it goes. |

We have quite the tubby bunch here! So am I the heaviest OTP member!?
Anyhow - diet pills downright scare me! And many of those supplements you gotta be careful of as well. They can really mess with your blood pressure & metabolism. I would say, "honey - I think it's best we both work our excess baggage off via the tennis courts & in the sack" .
I don't like those diet pills man. I took some ephedra before & the shit made my heart pound! As it's since been banned, a lot of these companies are looking for alternatives (in which do the same thing).
Quite dangerous.
All I take for daily supplements (1 per day or under) is:
1) Multi-vitamin
2) Green tea extract
3) Flax seed oil
4) Fish oil
5) St. John's Wort
6) Apple cider vinegar
7) Whey protein powder in my smoothies
8 ) Melatonin (as needed to help sleep). Exercise seems to do the trick though too

I am a firm believer in balanced diet and exercise. I know it is cliche to say, but it works, is healthy, and you have a better chance to keep the weight off.
Anybody here know anything about this P90X workout plan? been looking for something a little more total body fitness than just straight weight loss and some guys on a goalie board who have a good history give the system a good review. Has me curious. _________________ It's not you Sundin, it's me...please just leave...and don't look back....please please do not look back. |

Yeah, diets are a sham because they do nothing to alter the metabolism. It's like people who use laxatives to lose weight, if anything it will make it harder to lose weight when you eventually gain it all back. Losing weight and gaining muscle is pretty easy if you're willing to put in the effort.
1. Eat sensibly, and on a consistent schedule (three/four meals a day). No midday snacking, no heavily salted foods. Never eat less than two hours before going to bed. No soft drinks - switch to water.
2. At least one hour of physical activity a day, five days a week. Cardio is helpful, but it's better to do a comprehensive weight training plan first, followed by burning whatever energy you have left on a cardio machine. Working the muscles improves blood circulation and provides a more complete workout. A treadmill really only helps the legs.
The more you exercise, the less hungry you'll be in between meals. The whole eight glasses of water a day thing is bullshit, that's too much excess water and can lead to weight gain and other problems. Do drink a little bit when thirsty, just don't chug bottle after bottle thinking you're replacing lost nutrients. _________________ It seems like you need to be a physics professor to choose the right TV.
