Ahh, that sucks Hip Mad

It has to be ridiculously obvious for the refs to call a too many men in men's league, and I don't mind that. Let us play. We got whistled for one last week when I fired the puck over near my bench when we were changing(stupid play but I thought one guy was looking for a pass), and it sure didn't look like we had too many, but the refs called it anyways. It's usually terribly obvious when they do call it.

We beat the Talons 5-1 last night, the whole team played well. Another win against the Friday teams, while we can't win in our own division. Frustrating as hell... Mad Scotty, where have you been the past couple of weeks??

Hell, at least you're winning Laughing

I wasn't expecting the too many men call
The one that blew my mind was not letting us call a timeout
well, that and the high stick goal ...
and the icing while we were short....

ok, lets face it, at least one of those refs maybe never reffed before
but the other one has no excuse
Fuck, they ARE getting paid to do this Laughing

2 weeks ago I was out of town, and this week, being a Friday night, we had made these plans with another couple that we had already cancelled out of a few times before, and couldn't cancel this time.

We have 2 games left and then the playoffs, which I will definately be at.

Do you know how the playoffs work? Will it be 1 vs 8 or will it be Thursday night division 1 vs 4, and Friday play their 1 vs 4?

It's 1v4 and 2v3, then the winners of Thursday and Friday play each other.

Oh Ok, so why do we have our division standings with the Friday teams?

Laughing I know, but I find Thursday night the tougher league, so I thought we could sneak in an easier game against a Friday Team, Guess not. Laughing

So it looks like we'll start against Toronto, which should be interesting seeing as we also play them our last game of the year.

Thursday night is definitely the tougher league. We beat Goodlife 5-1 last game, the same goalie as when we tied them 0-0. And we beat the Talons Friday 5-1, who are the top team in that league. We've sucked the big one against our own division in the past 5 games. Evil or Very Mad

Well, we won Thursday night against a Thursday night team 5-1, (mind you they were the last place one Laughing , but hey we lost to them the last time we played).

What's nice is we have won our last 3 games 5-1,6-1,and 5-1, which is nicew since we were slumping and just in time for the playoffs which begin next week. Last game of the season this Thursday against our huge Nemesis Toronto, who we will also meet in the 1st round next week.

Must be nice to be winning

We lost our 3rd in a row, and 6th out of 7 last night to the Whalers 6-2
Bad ice with puddles everywhere, we constantly lost it in our end in the first
Still we were only down 2-1 after 1
It was crazy, every time they gunned it off the boards or into a crowd, it bounced around and came right to one of their guys
It was like watching a pinball.
They also played with more intensity than we did, which never hurts
Speaking of hurtin, I did quite a bit of it last night
Caught my fresh edges in a rut in the soft shitty ice in our corner and went down in a heap. Luckily, we got a faceoff...
Right off the faceoff, I was clearing the front and the shot from the point drilled me right in the front arch. Limpin' pretty good today.
Not a broad dull throb, but a very area specific sharp bite

I also got hit in the neck with an attempted clear

At the end of the game, our center was getting into it with one of their guys
I was moving in and noticed their point man was walking in winding up
Idiot was gonna blast the puck right into the two that were fixing to brawl
Only now, I was in the way, and took it off the wrist sending it over the glass

Nothin' like adding injury to insult
Laughing

Shocked Holy Crap Hip, that's a whole lotta hurt for 1 game.

What's been your team's trouble lately? If I recall, you guys are usually around 2nd place in your division. Are you missing a lot of your key players?

It's hard to pinpoint

We had added a few good players over the summer, but they left before the winter started.

Our top D guy also decided he didn't want to play in Acton anymore
(kind of like losing Bobby Orr, for the offense and intangibles he brought)

We added our center's nephew, but he's been a work in progress
I can't fault his effort. He hasn't really clicked with any of the forwards, I've been trying him on D (which allows me to send our center back to center where he belongs, rather than floating for-fense Laughing )
He likes doing it, but it's disruptive never knowing what position he's playing
Several guys have started to mention what I've actually observed for the whole season - he seems to be trying to do it all himself, at times to the detriment of the team (not selfishly, more like just trying to carry the team)

It doesn't help that I've been starting to feel my age playing against younger and hungrier players ...
although having so few skaters and having to play the entire game so often has in a way invigorated my own ... well, tenacity

But a malaise has certainly settled over the team
I think we are still .500 despite the slide (two games left)
With only 8 skaters, I have felt all season, this could be our last Sad

Well after a long layoff due to the weather and other things and then proceeding to play like absolute crap the next two weeks I finally felt comfortable back on D. We won a come-from-behind victory 9-7 despite the opposition's goalie being on fire and us having a backstop who quite frankly had no business being out there. I subbed for the next team and unfortunately things got contentious when that team's best player proceeded to run up the score. He really should have laid off after we went up by 5 or so. I definitely looked to pass every time I got in the clear. So one of the rink's managers jumped on and proceeded to bring it within 3, but thankfully it wasn't enough.

We beat Toronto last night 6-4. Finally got a win against one of them or the Avs over the past 6 or so games against them. They were without their usual goalie, who is better than the guy that was subbing. Their goalie hasn't been there for a while now, I'm not sure what the deal is. The team played really well, I was back in net as the younger bro had to work. Scott picked up a couple of points with a good game, one of which was a really nice touch pass at the blue line to one of our guys who picked up the puck at full speed, went in and buried a high wrist shot on their goalie.

Hopefully we can keep this momentum going into the playoffs. We've won 4 in a row and we play Toronto in the first round.

Yeah, it felt good beating them. We've been on a bit of a tear lately, and need to continue this next week in the playoffs.

Jeff, once again played great in net subbing for his brother tim, and Jeff is now 3-0 in the three games he's played in net Cool

First playoff game was last night against Toronto, and they had their goalie back. They had a couple of leads early, but we eventually made it 3-2. Then they tied it up. Then they made it 4-3. One of their guys had it on near the boards and I tied up the close man in front. The guy passed the puck out...to the open guy on the other side of the crease Mad My bro was caught flat-footed and got deked out. 4-3 for them Mad With about 2 minutes left, we were holding it in their zone. It came back to me a couple of times at the point, and I saw ou big dude cutting towards the middle. I faked a slapper and passed it off. He gave it to another guy(Bruce) at the side of the net who roofed a backhander far side to tie it at 4. With 50 seconds left, our big dude drove to the net, put the shot on, had it stopped, and Bruce knocked it in to make it 5-4. We held on and now we face the Avs in round 2 in 2 weeks Very Happy

Fucking A. We scored 2 goals in the final 2 minutes to win? How was Tim McKee and the rest of them after the victory.

My flight landed at 11pm, man that sounded like an awesome game. Very Happy

It wasn't, it was kind of sloppy Laughing Still exciting nonetheless.

Their goalie was pissed. They had a goal called back earlier in the game because McKee went through Tim's crease and was blatantly holding onto Tim's stick. Luckily the refs saw it, the goal was called off and McKee got a penalty. On our last goal, Shawn cut to the net hard, and looked like he bumped into Bal while getting his shot off. They figured that it should have been blown down when he got bumped into.

They also scored a goal when our net was off. Nevermind that Tim knocked it off himself Laughing We were scrambling in our zone, the puck was going to their guys and Tim was against the post and figured he might as well see if he can stop the play somehow Laughing The refs missed it, and the goal counted Laughing

Their guy who got a misconduct and booted last game wasn't there. Not sure if it was because he was simply missing the game or because McKee actually enforced the misconduct=1 game suspension rule on his own teammate.

Congrats guys, at least someone here is winning!
Is this McKee guy a ref, or player/commish?

We lost last week, and have a chance to even our record Sunday against the last place Rangers. Our top LW won't be there, and I most likely won't either as my grandfather in WVA has fallen deathly ill and I'll be heading down there this weekend.

Good luck in the rest of the playoffs guys!

Sorry to hear about your Grandfather, Hip Mad

Yeah, McKee is a player/commish.
