I think the struggles will continue for the next two games at least. Just like how Edm has no answer for the Sedins , Van has no answer for Ovechkin... who can shut him down right now?
new look lines if you havent already read/heard
Sedins Raymond
Naslund Kesler Pyatt
Cooke MOrrison Linden
Burrows Ritchie Isbister |

Sheesh !
The only line that has shown some cosistency and energy and it's completely gutted ? (Cooke-Burrows-Kesler)
While AV tinkered last year and seemed to have the midas touch when inserting a player on a line and got results, continuing to overhaul his line-up every game will certainly sacrifice chemistry.
I'm guessing he isn't too worried about the team's performance if he continues to mix and match his lines like a circus juggler. |

Agree with the Fox... what's the point of making everyone waste 30 minutes a game in search of chemistry?
And re: Ovechkin: they've only ever played him once (and won). At least let him own the team for a few years before deciding that they have no answer! _________________

| This is a rarity that all of us seem to agree on the Canucks. I agree , let them play through it. When these lines struggle for 5 minutes , hit the panic buttton and its Naslund back with Sedins and everybody else juggled like fiery knives. |

Moved to the Caps' forum because:
(1) it's my turf and needs traffic;
(2) it's a road game, after all. _________________

No, there's a guy on HF, txpd who always gets shit from his fellow Caps fans...seems like a prime candidate for defection.
I'd also say the best new look jerseys definitely are the Caps and Jackets...but I'm betting they'll fuck it all up by introducing a dark blue third next season that they'll just start wearing all the time.
Anyway, go Caps! |

| There is a silver cloud in this lining. Luongo is rounding into form. For the first time this season the defensive core is healthy and all 6 starters are in the lineup. As for the forwards, I agree with everyone else about breaking up the Burrows-Kesler-Cooke unit, it shouldn't be done. Then again, AV has thrown a curve ball before and not gone with the lines he used in practice. |

They were good for a bit at the start of the year and then slumped. _________________ Bring back the old OTP!

| Now here's my rant. This is the Canucks' 4th game in 6 days. It is common to play that many but excuse me, who the fuck in the NHL thought of this schedule? Start off in Columbus, fly to Raleigh, fly back to Detroit, finish in Washington and finally play your next game at home against Detroit 2 days later. That's 5 games in 8 days in 3 different time zones. If it had been Columbus, Carolina, Washington, Detroit, Detroit then I could see it, but back and forth, back and forth, back? Compare that to the Bruins who started in Dallas, played 5 games in 9 days with a 4 day break between playing in Phoenix (Mountain Time) and California (Pacific Time right next door to Mountain). Then they return to Boston and have a 5 day break before resuming play. They now don't play out of the Eastern Time zone for the rest of the regular season. Philadelphia had a 4 day rest between games on the road from Edmonton to Vancouver, time to hang out in Whistler. They now only play 2 more times out of the Eastern Time zone and after the game against Colorado they have a 4 day break. This is the team that in the '80s would spend only 17 night away from home in a hotel. Of course these 2 teams have dinosaurs for owners who fought against changing the schedule this year to include more western games. Fuck them, fuck Gary Bettman, fuck Colin Campbell, fuck the NHL schedule makers. Jim Robson used to say the Canucks travel schedule 10 points per season in the standings. If I were the owner of this team I would scream loud enough and go to the media, telling them what fuckups Bettman and his crew are. Embarrassing these idiots is the only way to get action out of them. |

Bottom line - 2 points.
I was flippin' back and forth between the Lions and Nux, so I didn't see the whole game. Fourth and last game of the road trip and it showed in the 3rd period.
Still loads of room for improvement. A few too many mistakes by the D, altho' some of that could be blamed on fatigue. However, this group doesn't look like they are in sync.
The replacement line for the CBK trio wasn't nearly as effective as the energy produced by the Kesler line (CBK). And Burrows & Cooke both played less minutes tonight on their new lines.
Kesler is looking good no matter what line he is on. He seems to have some confidence and was focused again tonight. He seemed to get Pyatt going, especially on his first goal.
There were a few enlightning moments with the Sedin line, but for the most part they seemed a step slower tonight, IMO. However, the Caps have a good young team and may have had something to do with the Nux not looking so spry.
Caps out hit the Nux 32 - 12 on the night, but Louie shut the door when he was challenged.
Bring on the Wings. |
