excellent assessment DH. I never knew the suspensions that Pronger has received.

I suppose I can agree that Simon is more of a target than an actual offender. Is it because of his role as an enforcer? He has made some stupid ass decisions but he certainly isn't the super thug that the league makes him out to be.

That being said he has issues and he doesn't comprehend the result of his actions. I think the suspension is appropriate for his track record. At some point he has to understand he's under a microscope.

It was rumoured that Chris Pronger asked to be traded from Edmonton because he impregnated the local weather lady and his wife wanted him closer to home. The joke is he's such a big guy with a big schlong that he accidentally knocks up men and women simply by leaning forward.

Simon speaks again:

In the National Hockey League there are two sets of standards: one for the star players and one for everyone else.

Clearly Simon has never heard of The Pronger Exception. Related: Brian Burke.

Campbell responds.

Colin Campbell wrote:
So why was Pronger’s so much less when he’s also been suspended eight times and has injured loads of players? “They’re all hockey plays. It’s plays where he plays too tough, plays too hard, gets carried away. The guy had him in a leg lock. Those are factors and I didn’t do this in a vacuum. I consulted a lot of people. Plus, he loses $600,000 in salary.”

Laughing That could have been a quote from Brian Burke 10-15 years ago, you wouldn't have known the difference between Campbell and Burke Laughing Kind of like how Bure on Churla was a hockey play...no games. Lemieux on Draper was a hockey play...2 games. Suter on Kariya was a hockey play...4 games. This is such bullshit.

If they're hockey plays, then why are they even offences?

It's kind of funny to see where this thread was headed way back in December... how clairvoyant!

Jim Kelley rips into the front office. Long, but makes some excellent points:

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2008/03/18/kelley_suspension_pronger/

Oh hey look:

Quote:
A game is a contest of skill played within rules and conditions that have to be applied to all parties on an equal basis. That can be difficult at times, but strangely enough that's not an issue here. What Campbell had to deal with in this case is simply two players, both of whom committed the same infraction, both of whom have the same reputation (although based upon conversations I've had with current era hockey players that Pronger is by far the dirtier player), both of whom have incurred the same number of suspensions and both of whom are equally well known to Campbell for their style of play and for their unwillingness to change.

Great article.

I want to know where that new NHLPA guy was in all of this. Was he consulted? Does he think Pronger should've got 30? Should Simon only have got 8?
