Honestly, no one is noticing but Florida is on an unbelievable run right now. They've won 7 straight and are only 2 points behind Philly, though they've played one more game than the 3 teams battling for that spot (Philly, Buffalo, Washington). |
Yeah I've been watching them since their fifth win in this streak,The way they are playing now,They could very well catch Carolina,It will be interesting to see anyway. |

Carolina keeps on winning as well, and they've got the best inter-division record in the SE with all these divisional games ending the year, so I think they'll lock up the #3 seed and be at least 7th in total points in the East. 8th is what's up for grabs between Philly, Buffalo, Washington and Florida. If the Bruins slip they might make it interesting, but even when they aren't at their best they seem to pick up enough points to distance themselves from that group. _________________ "Oh my God. Big night tonight. Vancouver put Phoenix on the ropes last night, as they're down to their final loss before virtual elimination. They're back at it tonight, against another team that is on the ropes... Edmonton. That'll be interesting. Thing is, with Edmonton so fond of OT and the shootout, it stands a good chance it'll be a 3 point game and both teams survive another night.
Columbus hosts Calgary, fighting for their lives as well. Calgary can move to a "below .500" position with a win tonight.
And out East, it's down to the last breath for Toronto... a loss of any kind, OT or regulation, will eliminate them with this method.
For teams facing a more positive outlook, tonight is chance #2 for San Jose to become the 2nd team to "clinch" as they travel to face last placed LA. A OTL puts the Sharks at 94 points, the magical number for Western Conference teams to clinch at.
And yes, a Philly regulation loss and a Washington win puts those two teams into a tie for 8th, and yes the Eastern bar is likely set just a tad to high compared to what's likely going to qualify as 8th. A more realistic adjusted bar would be 90 points, not 92. In which case, Toronto's bought themselves one more loss/life. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. BTW, looks like season over for Phoenix. 8-4 Edmonton with 2 minutes to play. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. I should speak to her. But what the hell can I say? Anything that doesn't mention that I masturbate over her memory is probably a good idea."

San Jose becomes the 2nd team to clinch with their win last night over LA. As mentioned, Phoenix is now out of the picture, only able to reach 93 points as it stands right now after losing in Edmonton.
New Jersey will try to become the first team to reach the Eastern threshold of 92 points tonight vs. the Rangers, while Columbus tries to avoid elimination yet again by travelling to top ranked Detroit.
Last night, with a loss to Washington, Nashville joined the "endangered" club by moving within 3 points of elimination.
However, currently the Western teams at the bottom of the top 8 are on pace for 93 points, so it is possible that there is one glimmer of hope for them as well.
However, the fact remains... if you can't reach 94 points in the West, you need a lot of luck to make it, and if you can't reach 92 points in the East you need some luck as well. At the very least, with Edmonton holding on here and facing divisional opponents the rest of the way (which are the 4 teams everyone is chasing in the West), they give themselves a shot to win a couple of those games outright and then hope for one more stumble in the remaining games to take advantage of. _________________ "Oh my God. New Jersey doesn't quite get to the clinched mode as they lose to the Rangers in a shootout. The Rangers have won all 6 meetings between the two teams this season in a massive market correction.
Anaheim moved within a game of clinching by beating Dallas, in a matchup that could prove very decisive in determining home ice advantage.
Washington joined the endangered list with a huge loss in Chicago.
San Jose actually officially clinched a playoff spot last night, rather than this unofficial method. They are officially clear of Nashville & Edmonton thanks to a shootout win vs. Minnesota.
But alas, last night sees the end of the line for Columbus.
As for tonight's action...
New Jersey's slip-up leaves Montreal a shot at being the first Eastern team to clinch tonight vs. Boston.
Edmonton will try and hang on for another night vs. Vancouver, in a game that could dramatically change the WC playoff picture.
Florida still has that one loss coushin, but they give it their best shot tonight at staying in the race vs. Carolina.
With a point tonight, Pittsburgh would move within 1 game of clinching. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. I should speak to her. But what the hell can I say? Anything that doesn't mention that I masturbate over her memory is probably a good idea."

Montreal becomes the first Eastern team to 92 points.
Pittsburgh moves within an OTL of reaching, and Ottawa is now 3 points away.
The West's 94 point total now looks way too high. Edmonton's loss puts them out of reach of 94 points, and Nashville's loss means they have to run the table to get there. That'd be fine if Colorado's loss didn't force them to go 5-2-0 to reach the goal. 92 points might be a more feasible cutoff.... which would still make it hard for Nashville, Edmonton, and the big group of recently eliminated teams in Chicago, Phoenix, and Columbus to make it, but a 4-3-0 record by Colorado down the stretch should be good enough to clinch the 8th seed.
Florida's shootout loss now has them with one foot in the grave. A regulation loss would drop them out of the picture. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater.
