Time to panic Red Wing fans? (RW & Bosc) maybe. Dominik Hasek is still out with the flu, Mikael Samuelsson left practice early today because of a groin problem, Tomas Holmstrom looks as if he is out indefinitely with an abdominal strain and Brad Stuart is still out with a broken finger until the middle of the first playoff round.

The good news. Valterri Filppula is ready to go Friday night and Darren McCarty will make his much anticipated return to the ice on Friday night. Aaron Downey will be a healthy forward scratch. Derrick Meech will be the defense healthy scratch.

Hasek being out means that Osgood plays. I'm far more confident watching Ozzy in net than Hasek.

Holmstrom being out for longer than expected sucks. While the rise of Franzen certainly helps reduce the loss, having Holmer back healthy for the playoffs is important.

Samuelsson? I still don't know what I think of the guy. He has no hockey sense whatsoever. Somehow he puts points on the board. I'll be happy having him off of the point on the PP.

He have depth for Stuart, but it would still be nice to get him back as soon as his health allows. Big, physical presense on the back end.

I'm rooting for McCarty's return, that's for damn sure. I really want to see Friday's game.

It's Detroit. They'll just call up some kid who took up hockey last week and he'll be a Hart candidate within two years.

I didn't watch much of the first but apparently McCarty played pretty well and made some good defensive plays. Good to see that that hasn't left him.

Detroit comes back in the third on two goals by Franzen, but gets beat in OT on Boyes' second of the night and 41st of the year.

The second Franzen goal showed the subtle brilliance of Nick Lidstrom. Franzen was on the boards coming down the left wing. One guy was left on the left side of the ice, more down low than high. Lidstrom sees this and pinches toward the right side. I don't know if the guy knew about Franzen, but Lidstrom completely drew the guy out of position and left Franzen completely alone on the doorstep for Zetterberg's crossing feed. Even if the guy knew that Franzen was there, Lidstrom forced him to make the undesireable decision of deciding between a pinching Lidstrom and Franzen coming down the left side. I watched that play as it happened and wasn't sure how the hell Franzen was left so alone, and even the broadcast team didn't realize it until a little bit after the goal.
