http://msn.foxsports.com/nhl/story/7970000/Cap-room-won't-be-an-issue-for-Penguins

$56.3m is what can be expected next year, and the floor will be $40m... that's right, the salary floor next year will be higher than the cap was in 2005-06.

If the hockey related revenue continues to climb by 11% a season, that projects to a $68m cap in 2010-11.

Isn't one of the reasons it's going up so much this year the new TV deal with CBC? They won't continue to climb like they are this year if that's the case...

The rich get richer and the poor...well Little Gary's league continues to be a welfare program.

I thought of posting something about "Disco Stu" about that revenue projection.

"Did you know that sales of disco records went up 400% for the year ending 1977? If these trends continue!"

Laughing

The floor shouldn't be that big a deal:

Quote:
It also means the floor next season will be $40M, or slightly above that. It seems like expensive flooring, but not so much, actually. For of all 30 NHL teams, only Columbus (barely), Nashville and Phoenix will have invested less in payroll this season.

Columbus will have to drop like $20 mil on players this summer to get there.

I'm sure this will result in some insane free agent deals. John-Michael Liles might be landing something like $5 million per...good for him if he gets it, just hope it's not with the Avs.

Toronto needs a winger for Sundin, and they'll have this extra cap room this summer. 6 years and $36m for Ryan Malone should do it. Don Cherry recently called him "Pittsburgh's best player".

I don't really see why he needs to pull an April Fool's joke. Eklund is pretty much a year-round April Fool's joke. Especially for the people paying.

Not quite: It's going to be $56.7m

$40.3m is the floor... which is more than $1m over the salary cap ceieling in 2005-06.

One fucking word from Lowe about competitive balance should earn him a punch in the mouth.
