The Amazing Kreskin:

They will sweak in with 94-95 points only to lose in 6 to Detroit by a combined score of 14 - 9

If 96 is the magic number, they need 15 points in their last 11 games, or 15/22 = .681.
If they need 96 points than they would need another 16 points wouldn't they?
Anyway,We are in a much better position than Nashville or Phoenix,I would also bet that the so called magic number will be more like 94 or even 93 this year.I don't think they'll miss the playoffs ,But doing something in the play-offs is another story Rolling Eyes

Wow, I read this in the Bruins forum. It's a Razz rant about his beloved B's but it sure sounds applicable in here...

"And there goes the season...

Course, they'll probably rattle off five in a row now... But let's face it. You can focus on the back end, let in less goals, stay in games, get some bounces, and pick up more points, but it doesn't mean your talent level is any better. Our "snipers" are currently going through inexcusable periods of impotence, even allowing for their streakiness."

I read the same rant and thought exactly the same thing... Laughing

Well you know what they say Cunner, "great minds think alike". Of course they also say that "simple minds are amused by simple things".

With 2 games left we can catch 2 different teams which gives us a bit better odds of making it into the playoffs. When Minny beats Calgary in Minny it will come down to the Saturday night meeting between Vancouver and Calgary. That's saying we beat Edmonton tomorrow. If we beat Calgary they could be out depending if Nashville wins or looses. If nashville and van become tied with the same amount if wins, we get the tie breaker because of the 3 games to 1 in the head to head. It's going to get very interesting if we can put a W on the board tomorrow. Loosing is not an option!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man that would be nice to see Calgary in the 9th spot!

If the Canucks appreciate their history, they will lose to Edmonton, making everything moot.

I know everbody wants to keep positive vibes but here's a positive out of a negative.. if they do miss , the lowest they can finish is 10th last overall in the NHL( buffalo ,chicago and Edm can still pass us). They can still nab a top 10 pick which I think would be great if we miss the playoffs.

After we get passed the disappointment of a bad season , its exciting going into a deep draft with a decent pick. Im already eyeing Kyle Beach.

You know, the lottery only goes so far... to really prevent teams from tanking, and giving the fans something to cheer for right up to the end, the draft ought to start by going in reverse order among non playoff teams...! That way, there's still an incentive to try your hardest, play spoiler up 'till the end, etc., and just barely missing the playoffs is no longer infinitely worse than never coming close!

Or each non-playoff team just gets the same chance of winning.

Not many people would tank for a 1 in 14 shot at the top pick.

Beach is a little shit, made fun of Lucic for his degenerative spine condition, and then LOOCH tuned him up Laughing Great player but total headcase and basically uncontrollable even by Constantine when he was still running Everett. Feast or famine pick, could be a top 3 forward or coud be a never was. If Vancouver drafts him I'm betting... Very Happy

was he the guy?! holy I totally forgot who was involved with that. I dont hold to much into teenagers when it comes to maturity issues , what teenager doesnt do or say the stupidest things.

I dont know anything about any of the prospects , when the draft gets near , more info and opinions will start to appear.

Deep draft loaded with blueliners for once. I would take a chance on Beach, but not with a top 10 pick in a deep draft...

If Beach has even the slightest question marks with his personality, the Canucks will avoid him. They're waaaay too Conservative -- they simply don't draft players with personalities to speak of.

To be fair, I don't think teams ever actually tank, but it's certain that once they're eliminated, they definitely have a lot less to play for. If there was an incentive to keep on winning, it would go a long way both for game quality and for playoff results not being affected by competitors playing against opponents with nothing to play for.

its clear now , we will get 14th at the worst , possibly as high as 10th overall. Knowing how these guys choke , they'll probably do a backwards choke beat CGy on saturday and finish 14th last.

Ottawa definitely tanked their first year in the league... Was that to get Yashin, or Bonk? I forget... Either way served them right Laughing

Oh, that much is certain -- pressure's off. Exactly like 2006... plus, the Flames will dress a reduced lineup too.

Anyway, exactly as I said:

They also tanked for Daigle the next season. Laughing
