Not quite.

You can't catch Calgary, but you can still catch Nashville with some help...

That was sarcasm Wink And actually we can catch Calgary if we win our last two and they lose theirs,We have the head to head tiebreaker since they would have the same amount of wins in that scenario. The thing is that we suck pretty bad in pressure situations so I believe you guys are safe Mad

Where's the rant thread? I'm gutted. I wish Lui hadn't made it back in time for the minny game, hindsight being 20-20 and all. Think they could rest him next game? What's the point anyway if he's not himself and we make it. I'm not blaming him just saying he's not himself maybe resting him isn't the answer either I dunno, but this team can't afford more than 2 goals against

My questioin is why in this last stretch with a complete lack of play from the top line have we not made some roster moves from the Moose (arguably one of the best teams in pro hockey record wise right now). Moran Jaffray and Hansen are continually putting up points. Who knows what a stint with the big club could do for Grabner's confidence. BUt no lets just insist on shuffling the guys we have around in ridiculous and useless combinations. THe only plus players last nite were Linden and Ritchie. THe only guys who looked like the gave a crap were LInden and Kesler. This does not look like a playoff team and I will be severely disappointed if we make it into the post season. There's no heart there's no one who makes you stand up and say yes you can take this team somewhere and make something happen. The oone guy who can do that has had an extremely rough family year and understandably his mind isn't 100% on the game and if one person faults Luongo for his play they deserve a permanent spot in assclownville. IMO Nazzy gets lumped in with many botched big contracts his play and leadership ranking right up there with Yashin at this point. with two games to go where I should be cheering my team on i find i have to root for St Louis and Chicago for the Nux to make the post season. Not this time I say if we can't make it in on our own play then I don't want to see them there at all what for another first round knock out? DO I really want to see a four game sweep by the deadthings? shit no I'd rather watch spring Baseball!

From what I saw Sami Salo had a pretty rough night. The Canucks were guilty of way too many turnovers and admittedly Luongo was not on his game.

The Avs got away with a few trips during the game, though none IMO cost the Nuckers the contest.

All in all I think last season Vancouver got by with great goaltending and a handful of players (Cowan, Pyatt, etc.) who overachieved. Neither one of those things is happening this year obviously.

I hope next season Nonis gets a 1-year reprieve. It's next season he'll truly have the chance to define himself as a GM and put together a roster that is pretty much his and not the remnants of the Burke era.

There's plenty to be hopeful for. Next year you'll likely get a full year from Bieksa, and Edler and Bourdon will be full-time Canucks, so even in the event of those inevitable Salo/Ohlund injuries the blueline should be able to hold up. Pettinger was a great acquisition, still can't believe McPhee traded him for that overpaid goof Cooke.

Sad as it may be, it's time to cut Naslund and Morrison loose. Linden will likely retire to a nice front-office position. Nonis will HAVE to make a big splash in the free agent market or package something together in a trade to upgrade the offense.

This was not a question of effort. "Effort" (as well as "leadership") is the hockey fan's emotional boogeyman to explain a loss. They were trying -- Näslund in particular was as physical as I've seen him. Colorado was just too good once they got going, and Luongo wasn't bailing them out, which is the Canucks' modus operandi -- what can you do?

And fans have every right to acknowledge that Luongo's play has been below his standards. Every team and player has their own circumstances -- most of which are understandable -- and if you can hold up Näslund's contract as the basis for criticism (or cap limitations), you can do just as well with Luongo.

Kylos, they can't call anyone up, they were talking about this on the post game show after their last game in Minny, I'm not sure what the rule is but they are only allowed so many call ups between some date and the end of the year and the Canucks have used all of theirs. If they make the playoffs then they can make callups again in the postseason. Maybe someone else knows what the exact rule is

Burke is the one that left him with absolute horseshit for prospects. Totally unfair to lay this on Nonis - his deal with Luongo looks amazingly good if the cap does indeed go through the ceiling. Give him a draft or two and see how he does on July 1. Remember, he had the balls to do nothing at the deadline - that's almost always the savvy move...

Burke is an imcompetent twit who has fooled people into thinking he knows what he's doing. The current plight of the Canucks shows taht he does not...

The problem with Nonis that he knew the team had no secondary scoring last season and he did nothing about it during the summer.

Vancouver lacks primary scoring, not secondary scoring.

Well, after last season, they lacked secondary scoring... This seems to be less of an issue this season with the emergence of Kesler/Burrows, but now the primary scoring has dropped off (mainly Naslund, injuries to BMo, and of course the loss of Smolinski). It's a moving target for Nonis, and one that will be tough to fix given the relatively meagre crop of UFAs this summer.

Luongo also hasn't been himself since the new year; I was very concerned about family issues that could be distracting him in March and April, and while I think this is a very short term thing, it doesn't bode well at all for them to make the playoffs or do anything in the postseason.

I have no love for BB if anyone fell into a cup it was him.
Nonis has accomplished very little except landing Luongo--Keenan's wood for bertuzzi had alot to do with that--failing to address the teams main weakness in the offseason & during the season & the trade deadline is the problem. It's his job to put together a playoff team,he didn't do it,injuries & schedules & the cap are all just excuses for failure. This team is on the verge of missing the playoffs for the 2nd time in 3 seasons of nonis being at the helm.To me he doesn't deserve another chance to accomplish nothing in the offseason.Could Tamby do any worse?
Then there is the line juggling coach who has been rearranging the deck chairs on the titanic since october--who brought him in ? Nonis
It isn't about excuses,it's about results & 2 out 3 seasons missing the playoffs = getting replaced for lack of results.
