Plasma's the energy drainer one, right? I remember reading that if you bought a plasma, it'd undo any of your purchases of high-efficiency appliances as far as reducing energy consumption.

Just saying this is perhaps a good thing if it's part of a trend.

Also supposed to be the one that burns out bulbs much faster...and is far more expensive to fix.

Yes!

Plasma are power hogs, while LCD's are more efficient. Plasma's however have been superior at displaying deep blacks & fast movements (i.e., hockey puck) ... LCD's have however made terrific gains in that department. I have a 32" & have been quite pleased. They also do not run the risk of "burn-in" as plasmas do.

With regards to the bulbs, those are rear-projection tv's using LCD/LCoS/DLP technology - bulbs will burn out over time & typically cost $200 - $300 to replace.

I seem to remember CiB and Cali telling me Plasmas wear out quicker, especially at altitude...that's about all I know. Mad

I still love my Pioneer Elite.
Funny why Pioneer chose to stop production of plasma; their Kuro Elite was named the best flat panel in 2007.
Good plasmas have excellent burn in technology that makes this a nonissue. We did have to turn off our fireplace as the TV is mounted above it; the heat causes the plasma gas to leak out. In terms of longevity, my TV is rated for 100000 hours before it dims to half brightness. My wife reminds me about this every time I even mention upgrading; she calculated that I would be about 80 years old when I reach this magic milestone Smile

However, LCD has dramatically improved since I got my 50" screen in 2004. LCD was brutal back then with horrible ghosting and black reproduction.
Samsung makes the best LCD panels out there, although Toshiba just announced a 200hz model that apparently eliminates the ghosting problem with LCDs and fast motion.
