In my pool I used my sleeper pick (a guy you pick before the draft who might not get picked in the draft proper, and he's a bonus pick if he's still on the board at the end - unless someone else uses him as a sleeper as well, in that case, no one gets him)... on Ben Guite. Needless to say, I was pissed because I could've had a much, MUCH better pick.

The draft went from 7 guys down to 6 this year, so I think that definitely made an impact. We kept with 15 rounds.... those extra 15 available players is a HUGE impact. I was too conservative.

Smolinski, Begin or Dandenault.

These guys have a knack for timely goals, and although they didn't do much during the regular season, they'll have a full shift in the playoffs.

Brooks Laich seems like he scores alot of "playoff" type goals by getting his nose dirty.

Unfortunately this is the time of year when players no one likes to see like John Madden and Jay Pandolfo suddenly become scoring forces. My pick is one or both of them.

I'm praying an actual star like, say, Alexander Ovechkin, does in the postseason what he does in the regular season.

In 15 rounds, 6 teams, plus 5 sleeper picks (one sleeper got picked in the draft)... here are some guys that never got picked:

The guys E.L. mentioned, plus more on Montreal: Sergei Kostitsyn, Michael Ryder, and Guillaume Latendresse were not picked. I picked Andrei Kostitsyn, and Andrei Kostitsyn was the one sleeper who was disregarded in the end (the guy who picked him was in our draft for the first time and realized soon that he picked too high up of a player on a highly ranked team).

Brooks Laich was also not picked, I passed him up in the final round but I was highly considering him (picked Pierre-Marc Bouchard - not many Wild believers out there). Fedorov got picked on Washington, but no one below Laich on the scoring list did.

We were picking before every matchup was determined (due to time constraints), so there was some uncertainty. But very few Nashville, Boston or Philly players were taken. If you think any of those series will go 7, a top line player might still be taken who will get you 7-8 points in that span.

Dallas and Ottawa had a few players taken, but you could tell people were a bit hasty. Same with Minnesota and Calgary.... though I think Calgary's cutoff was Matthew Lombardi on the list (as in, he wasn't taken, and no one below him was either).

With only 15 x 6 + 5 players taken (95), there were no teams that were completely pillaged of forwards like Buffalo was last year.

But make sure you get Johan Franzen. He was red hot to end the year and obviously someone will take him. I made sure to get him.

I prepped a little so here are my early looks at some of my sleeper dudes

Tyler Kennedy - got the Pens making the final four and probably the finals.

Nigel Dawes - I have the Rangers as a sleeper team to make the final four.

JR- old but hungry and clutch. I got SJ in the final four too.

Guite is not bad caz i have Col in the final four too.

But Im still trying to pick who my final four teams will be.

Wow... I was silly enough to believe him when he said he was 'hedging' but now he's actually putting money on the Habs to go deep, deep, deep... What happened to your razz-colored glasses / blinders?

When it comes to money, there is no bigger whore than the Razzman Laughing

I'm realistic. The stars will have to align for us to beat Montreal. It's certainly possible - the playoff style of play is far more our style than Montreals - but they have more talent than us at the best of times, and the situations of Bergeron and Savard are not "the best of times". Plus, at the end of the day, I don't see us getting in Price's head. I do see the 21,000 screaming assholes at the Bell Center getting in our heads...

Our guys are HUGE dogs, and pro athletes have a lot of pride. They will notice. But is it enough to overcome Montreal's firepower?

Plus, NO ONE was taking Habs. Sorry, but they're a decent bet to go deep in the playoffs, and I cherry-picked the top 4 point producers. Would have had Streit, but some Swiss guy at our table drafted him in the 5th round before I could Laughing

drafted 9/10 old school total points.

1. Cheechoo
2. Campbell
3. Sakic
4. Forsberg
5. Higgins
6. Markov
7. Avery
8. Michalek
9. Rozsival
10. Liles

satisfied mostly. Normally I would pick Marleau instead of Cheech but I had Marleau in the reg season and I swore I would never draft him again. For those interested in these kind of things here was our top 10

1. Malkin
2. Thornton
3. Kovalev
4. Crosby
5. Datsyuk
6. Ovechkin
7. Zetterburg
8. Gomez
9. Cheechoo
10. Elias

Im really curious to see who goes 1st overall next reg draft.
