Woo-Hah! Pens lose and we take the conference for the first time since 1988.

We got hot early on and stayed hot. This team never stopped working hard, and we never let a loss get us down. Can anyone think of a stretch where we lost 4 games this season (except for that swoon early on)?

Now let's take the Cup!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good first round matchup too. Best possible way for the kids to acclimatize to playoff hockey. The team I'm most concerned about in the east in NJ, other that them, I think we stack up pretty well. Washington could give us fits, but they're still just a one line team.... and I trust the Brain Trust knows Huet's weakness...

But I'm getting ahead of myself..... it's Bear Season.

I like that you're hedging - though if you win, I don't think a couple of folks here will ever let you live it down...

I also like that you picked up on the Hens last year. I think it may be fairly lucky to have a mascot on the habs bandwagon...

The actual seeding didn't make me proud in particular, since it was secured by a Pens' loss when they were hardly trying to win, but just the effort and execution this whole season is something to be very proud of.

It is meaningless if you don't take care of business first, though. We get the Bruins, who we thumped in points 16-1 this year and made the difference in where our two teams ended up in the playoff picture. We need to take advantage of our positioning, which allows us not only home ice, but the advantage of not seeing either Pittsburgh or Washington until at least Round 3.

Failure is not an option in Montreal, so anything less than the Cup is ultimately not good enough. But not even making it to Round 3 would be a hugely squandered opportunity. The East is weak, but we're strong. We must prove this.

I won't relish it if we just take out the Bruins and lose to the Devils, Rangers, Flyers or Senators in Round 2.

Actually the East ended up being the far harder conference to make the postseason in...

Based on what? that Carolina would have been in had they been in the west instead of Nashville? They also play in the worst Division

I'll keep it simple for you. The 8th seed in the East needed more points to get in than the 8th seed in the West did...

Dude, you're the one having trouble grasping the point. If it was a balanced schedule you'd have an argument but you only play 10 games against the other conference so point totals prove nothing comparing conference to conference.

The west also had the 2 top teams point wise in the league so it kinda makes sense that at the bottom of the 8 the point total was less cause there are only so many points to go around. Mais Non? <=figured I should throw that in since we're in the habs forum

Add up the grand total of wins and you'll see that the West clearly dominated the East over those 150 inter-conference games.

Go crunch the numbers and come up with some reason why the West was the tougher conference. 8th in the East needed more points than 8th in the West. Both played the same number of games in and out of their conferences. Simple.

richard la tete, I didn't say the west was tougher, I asked you to explain why the east was "The far harder conference..." you've made lots of replies but none that actually address this

I agree - you shouldn't have to waste your time on that... so let me help ya.

The explanation is:

Razz said it... therefore it is logical and true.... and I use those words loosely Smile
