|
|
Nashville makes it into the first round of the dance thanks to a good ending stretch of 6-3-1 and thanks to Vancouver going on a 3-7 run to end the season.
Good coaching matchup with two who should be getting strong Jack Adams consideration. I'll still take Babcock over any coach in the league though.
Detroit has the elite top-end talent that can match up well offensively and defensively against anything Nashville wants to put on the ice. Detroit has plenty of firepower, and has 10 guys with 10 goals and 11 with 35+ points. Some of those players also missed time to due injury. Nashville doesn't have the big stars, but spreads their offense around.
Ahh hell, I don't feel like analyzing the crap out of the matchup, I'm gonna sit back and enjoy the playoffs. Here's the nhl.com preview:

| It would take a monumental choke-job on the part of Detroit to lose this one. Nashville doesn't impress me much at all in any phase of the game. |

Nashville has more useless tools than Detroit. I read that somewhere and it sounded good. Detroit in 5. _________________ ... Because the old one, is well, old.

Stuart and Draper should be ready for game 1 tomorrow night. I don't think Maltby is, Samuelsson is a maybe.

D pairings will probably be:
Lidstrom-Rafalski
Stuart-Kronwall
Lilja-Chelios
Here's what MacLeod also has for the lines:

Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Holmstrom
Filppula-Franzen-Cleary
Hudler-Draper-Samuelsson
Drake-Hartigan-Downey
Lidstrom-Rafalski
Kronwall-Stuart
Lilja-Chelios
Healthy scratches ...
McCarty
Abdelkader
Helm
Lebda
Meech
Injuries ...
Maltby (hamstring)
Kopecky (knee) |
After Sunday's game, Cleary will now be called Puck in the Face. Franzen is Mule. Abdelkader is Abbadabbadoo or Home Keys(both from A2Y blog). Hasek is Friggin or Fuckin Hasek, depending on what he's done to enrage me and the number of beers consumed. _________________ Bring back the old OTP!

I was actually doing the lines using the nicknames, including that one, but then found MacLeod's lines and posted them and then forgot. Sorry dude
Voltron slumped to end the year and didn't hit the 20-goal mark. He was playing really well for a while and then didn't get a point in the final 7 games. He brings more to the table than scoring, and played well in last years playoffs. A return to form with some solid defense and secondary scoring would be nice. He's been more confident in driving the net and controlling the puck this year. He looks like he's picked up some tricks from Datsyuk in stickhandling. He's pulled some fancy shit this year. _________________ Bring back the old OTP!

Detroit has too much depth and Nashville has none. Nashville has only one hope, Ellis goes into the greatest goalie zone ever and pitches four shutouts while getting peppered with 50 + shots a game. Possible, not very likely. Nashville will also be missing Legwand and Sullivan among others so their health o meter is not doing well. It will be a physical series because Nashville must make it that way. Detroit needs to try to avoid injuries to key players by using McCarty, Downey and DraKe as bodyguards early and often if need be. No runs by Nashville at Lidstrom, Datsyuk or Zetterberg can be allowed or tolerated. Other than that it will be close scoring but over quickly. _________________ "The greatest victory a man can win is victory over himself."

There's a guy called Abd al-Kader playing hockey?
Well, the second he laces up, he's already on the all-time "NHLers of Arab Origin" team with Ramzi Abid and a bunch of empty space. _________________

Chelios' first game of the series will tie Here's Patty for the most games played in the playoffs in a career.
Lidstrom is 4 games behind Stevey Y for the Red Wings GP playoff mark. _________________ Bring back the old OTP!

I hope this series is over fast. The matchup bores me to tears (no diss on Detroit, but everyone except Nashville fans and Bosc would have rather seen Chicago).
At least in Detroit we have the chance to see real stars shine and no more bullshit postseason scoring runs a la Pisani and Friesen and the like.
Hate sayin' it, but GO WINGS!
Didn't see a game 1 thread in the Motown forum, so let me say that so far Detroit isn't exactly steamrolling the Preds, but they clearly look superior. Nashville for the most part is looking sloppy and turning the puck over everywhere. Detroit SHOULD be ahead by more than 1 at this point... |

The only goal that Nashville got was a giveaway and then it looked like it was tipped a couple of times. Ellis made some great saves. Appropriate that Mule got the first goal. _________________ Bring back the old OTP!

Total stupidity on the part of Kronwall to lay that flying check on Peverley or whatever the hell his name is...he probably would've gotten away with the check (looked to me like his elbow only came up after the hit, not before) but leaving your feet to lay a hit is just plain stupid.
Anyhow, hope this series ends fast. |

Yeah, he was a little over-anxious on that hit, especially given the timing. He definitely deserved a penalty. Kronwall is picking his spots at the opposition blue line now, which has a better margin for error than when going for a huge hit at your own blue line. Sui passes against him are no longer when a guy makes a long bomb up the middle. Kronwall has been running guys over on simple clears to the opposition wingers around the boards. I love it. _________________ Bring back the old OTP!

Now I'm not saying that I like to see guys get hurt, but it's good for the health of our team and the integrity of hockey to have goof gone for the series given his penchant for diving and being a dirty idiot on the ice. _________________ Bring back the old OTP!

Erat bumps Hasek and draws a penalty from Rafalski.
Maguire: "He learned that from Brent Sutter in Red Deer"
Olczyk: laughs and says "He learned that from Sutter, Pierre?" _________________ Bring back the old OTP!

Another fantastic save by Hasek. 13 saves so far. Lots of action to get him into it early! _________________ Bring back the old OTP!
