PREVIEW

An unintended but funny result of using the Wild's official website for the preview:

Quote:
No. 6 Calgary Flames
(0-0 West. Conf. Quarterfinals; 0-0 overall)
at
No. 3 Minnesota Wild
(0-0 West. Conf. Quarterfinals; 0-0 overall)

Hey, maybe if the team prepares for the wrong opponent the Avs have a chance! Laughing

In all seriousness I just don't like the Avs' chances in this. It'll come down to special teams, and the Avs have struggled mightily in that department this season. IF they can score reliably against one of the best PK's in the league, then I think the Avs have a very good chance to win this. If not, well...

Yeah, I think you're right here. Special Teams will dominate here and unless they can get untracked, especially in the first few games before Foster and Schultz are available, the Avs will be in tough. I have a feeling though that 5-on-5, the Avs with their down-low game could do some damage.

Foster is not going to play until the middle of next season at best. And Schultz is out for the series at least, if not Round 2 as well.

Theo's been great in the first, Minny is definitely controlling the play. Colorado has to get the puck deep and establish their down low play.

End of 1, 0-0.

Avs didn't make the big mistake, killed off two penalties successfully. Minnesota definitely had the upper hand though, if not for some heroics from Theo the Avs would be in far bigger trouble.

So far it's not a problem getting into the Minny zone, it's actually getting some quality shots on Backstrom. Every time there's a rebound about 5 Wild players are all over the single Av fighting to get to it.

Hopefully Skoula does one of his infamous fuck-ups in the next period...

WOW...anyone missing this game is missing what hockey's all about.

Hard-hitting, hard-skating affair. 2-2 end of regulation. Avs jump out to a 2-0 lead with goals from Sauer and Smyth, the Wild bounce back in the 3rd with scores from Koivu (little/big Saku just has the Avs' number, seriously). Avs come on strong in the 3rd but just can't get it in, even after a Smyth penalty shot.

It's a shame, we almost got away with one. Theo and Backstrom have both been stellar. If there were ever a goat for the Avs it's most definitely Hannan. Took a series of dumb penalties (and should have been called for a blatant hold after that) and the Wild capitalize on the third one, an especially stupid penalty taken in a corner scrum w/Sheppard's Pie. And while the Wild's first goal was just plain dumb luck, Hannan shouldn't be leaving doing his best Karlis Skrastins impression and leaving the opposition all the room he can in the defensive zone...

Oh well...after watching a regular season that left me pretty much apathetic the Avs and Wild are putting on a show. Can't wait for OT!!!!

SUPER JOE WITH THE OT WINNER!!!!!!!!!

Fantastic setup beforehand by Wolski who had an extraordinary game. If he worked in the regular season like he did tonight he'd be a star. Amazing work by the Avs who were all over the Wild in the 3rd and OT...Avs would've been crushed to lose this one after such a stellar effort. Great game all around. I'm really excited about this series now!!!!!

It's kind of funny -- the only parts of this game I saw was the relatively brief period where Minnesota scored twice. So I suppose you can thank me for stopping to watch.

Sakic is inching very close to The Rocket's career playoff OT goal record...

Uh, he passed that a couple years ago. He's now 2 ahead of The Rocket.

Really? Well, the last record book I have is after 2001-2002, so maybe it's time to pick up a new one Laughing

There was one year recently where he had two in one series.

Yeah I remember that. Was that the series against Minny where they coughed up the 3-1 lead?

Yup, it was.

Damn you for reminding me of that...not like this series (and Brunette) don't remind me of it already of course. Laughing

Actually if memory serves me right those two OT winners were against playoff chokers extraordinaire Marty Turco and the Dallas Stars.

Nope, I just threw up the links. It was Minny. Although maybe he did 2 in a series before that.
