When penalties carry over from one period to the next who does it tend to favor? Seems like there should be some data somewhere about this... _________________

W/o having the data, I'd guess that this helps the PK marginally since the first unit pk gets a rest... _________________ ... Because the old one, is well, old.

I'd say it benefits the PK moreso. People say the clean ice benefits the PP, but I've yet to see that. I think a neutral zone faceoff splitting up the power play into two parts is very beneficial for the team killing the penalty. _________________ It's backwards time. |

PK for sure. Not only the rest, but also a free play stoppage which can kill any pressure/momentum, and a faceoff at center ice instead of the attacking zone.
I don`t have stats, but I`m guessing the Canucks`percentage on split penalties is between 0 and 1% all time, with the bulk of the goals coming on penalties taken at 19:59 of a period. _________________

I would say overal it favours the PK as well.
As an additional comment, I hate it when a penalty spans periods. I don't know what it is, but something about starting the period with special teams seems to kill the energy and flow of the game for both teams, sometimes for the whole period. _________________ (Working in a Call Centre) + (Being a Leafs Fan) = (One HUGE glutton for punishment)
