I first heard this on the HNIC Hotstove with Scott Morrison last night but apparently Darren Dreger broke the story first on TSN. Brunnstrom is going to sign with Vancouver. Morrison and Dreger both ssy he's getting a 3 year contract , equivalent to a top lottery pick.

If you're wondering whats Dreger's street cred with Canucks news , he's Nonis' cousin. He actually has legit sources with Canucks news lol.

Well , though this kid doesnt fit the direction of team identity Im hoping NOnis takes the team into , I cant deny a free blue chip prospect. I watched a Youtube highlite reel of him , he looks like a swedish Mason Raymond , speed and finesse.

Vancouver was the first team to show interest in Brunnstrom last November and have been among the most thorough and quietly aggressive since.

according to Dreger , interesting this kid was a Canucks "discovery" or they were first in line again. Nonis and his late night secret rendevous finally pay off...hopefully

According to Craig Button, he recommended the Leafs sign him last year but Ferguson and company decided not to, so take that for what you will. Button was a Leafs scout at the time. Could just be piling on Ferguson and trying to make himself look good.

"Swedish Mason Raymond" Laughing Could this team BE any softer? [/Chandler Bing]

Anyway, if that's true they'll need to bulk up quite a bit; if the Canadiens are the mold to follow in this the NewNHL, they'll need some snarl and nasty to go with that speed and finesse...

So he'll be good for 5 goals a season...

Does anybody know if Fabian is on Team Sweden at the World Championships? I have a reason to watch that tournament now , I would like to see how he does against elite talent in the north american game.

According to this, it sounds like he is, but it's not certain; I can't seem to find a site that names the Team Sweden contingent. Nevertheless, it's nice to see the Canucks get a leg up on this as well as the Alex Edler pick. I can see how getting Top Six minutes is more of a possibility in Vancouver vs. Detroit, especially with BMo and Naslund as UFAs.

This kid is starting to believe in his own hype , thinking he's the triplet already and wanting job security for the GM ... who the hell is this guy? I read somebody compare him to Bulis.. a guy who thinks he's a 50 goal star. He reminds me of an AMerican IDol contestant , they think they're a superstar but they're just a reality show contestant. Fabian thinks he's Forsberg but he's just another prospect.

Now if Nonis' job security is truly an issue , then why the hell would Fabian consider Toronto(The so called "final 3" that mde Fabian's cut list , Detroit confirmed they are out. Leaving Van and Toronto). So thats why I dont think Nonis' 1 year lame duck situation will be too much of a factor. If it is true, then this kid sounds like a primadonna.. if Nonis does get fired next summer which is reality , will Fabian demand a trade? you know what i mean.. my adivce to the kid , play a game first and make sure you're an NHLer before demanding anything.

but thats all based on hearsay , I never heard the kid speak yet nor has he actually made a statement about anything.

Vancouver Sun wrote:
TSN reported Sunday that Brunnstrom, a 23-year-old free agent, is balking at coming to Vancouver due to the uncertain status of Nonis and Vigneault, who have received no public backing from owner Francesco Aquilini.

Wait, since when does an owner "publicly back" his already-under-contract employees every offseason? You don't just assume someone's going to get fired prematurely every year. I don't recall Griffiths ever doing this with Quinn, or McCaw with Burke.

Vancouver media = drama queens.

Bob Mackenzie put Fabian's potential into perspective , after talking to some scouts he says if Fabian were to be in this years draft as is , he would be a top 15 , maybe top 10 pick.

Ain't that the truth...

And if Aquilini had somehow had the inclination to do so, and say, "We are solidly behind DN. We have no concerns about the direction of this team." Then the media would speculate, "Why now? Is this the kiss of death? If they are okay with the direction, then by not mentioning the coach, are AV's days as the head coach of the Canucks numbered?" Surprised

Yes, I read far too much of the drama queens' articles... Laughing Laughing

Don't even worry about him--Hakan Loob said Fabian is 2 years away
& needs to be developed.Nonis being fired changes nothing if he wants to play it should not matter who the GM is going forward.

man, talk about foreshadowing. Did JP Barry know something ? funny how this article came out today to rain on the Fabian story ... I thought he was talking about waiting for NOnis to get an extension or a vote of confidence... they knew something.

I think this is pretty much a moot point now. I guess Toronto wins the Fabian sweepstakes!
