Someone on HFBoards mentioned rumors of Jim Nill (Detroit's assistant GM and '82 Canuck). _________________

Press conference tomorrow at 11:00 (I imagine Pacific). No doubt to name Tambellini as interim GM.
Waitaminute...
Aquilini
Luongo
Tambellini
Nonis
Now I get it... _________________

Panic move indeed... So, on the same weekend that we hear that a highly touted Swedish prospect that 20 other teams are coveting is nearly a shoe-in to sign with Vancouver, we hear that it may be contingent on DN staying on as GM... And now the ownership screws that up and cans DN? Wow, what a collosal clusterfuck of an organization if this is actually what ends up happening.
Any confirmation of this? _________________ ... Because the old one, is well, old.

No. Fucking. Way.
Seriously, TERRIBLE move. Ownership should have realized that expectations got ratcheted way too far up after a transition season where the team pretty much overachieved and got lucky (scrubs overachieving, Luongo playing out of his mind, roster staying somewhat healthy) and had bad luck in just about every way this time around. Essentially Aqualad punished Nonis for having a surprisingly successful season. He didn't get a fair shake at all...but I guess the owners didn't trust him with all that cap space.
Since this now is tantamount to the writing on the wall for Vigneault, the team's going to waste yet another season in which they likely would've taken a step forward. It's a step back and another wasted season coming up for Luongo.
If I were Tambellini, I'd bolt the organization post-haste. There's no future in sticking it out if they're going to fire GM's this quickly. |

My sentiments exactly. Unless the new owner is going to name Scotty Bowman as GM and coach, forget it. Forget extending Luongo when his contract is due.
Panic move.
You would think I'd be accustomed to this.
Now I didn't always agree with DN's moves but I understood them and felt he deserved a third year to carry out his plan. _________________ ... Because the old one, is well, old.

Ill give Aquilini the same benefit of the doubt I was giving Nonis.. lets see what the plan is. If he scrambles for a GM for the next two months then he's making this up as he goes along and we're in trouble but if he hires somebody within the week , he had this planned and lets see what this plan is.
I like NOnis , I felt he shoud've be given the summer BUT with that being said I respect and understand this is Aquilini's team and he did not hire Nonis. Nonis was building a team with defence first mentality , and right or wrong , Aquilini maybe didnt like it.
But the next week is HUGE.. caz if there's no GM then this was a Seinfeld Steinbrunner crazy man move. Hmmm... maybe I do have a chance to work for the Canucks... head of player scouting! sex with the cleaning lady! and Ill wipe my greasy mouth with Cyclone Taylor's jersey! |

McKenzie's blog suggests he might already have someone ready to take over
Someone else will get that opportunity and while many will speculate on the possibility of Brian Burke returning to his old stamping ground in Vancouver, sources suggest Aquilini may already have his new man in place and that would most certainly rule out Burke, the subject of much conjecture for the vacant Toronto Maple Leaf GMs' job. Burke, of course, isn't going anywhere in the immediate short term. |

| I suppose the only logic I could apply to this is that ownership looked at Nonis's 3-year stint and saw the team only made the postseason once during that time. They also clearly didn't like the rather unpalatable on-ice product, and I guess they just didn't feel safe with what his vision of the team might be...get a new guy in there to play with all that cap room. Something tells me that's going to bite them in the ass big-time, because the next guy is going to use that cap room to appease whatever ideas the owner has to improve the offense and this is most definitely not a great offseason for free agency... |

I tend to think this is a bad move. However - I guess we'll have to see who the replacement is. |

I hope not,I liked Pat as a coach but he wasn't much of a GM in my opinion. |

| Blake Price brought up a good point through Aquilinis persepctive ( I thought it was a good point at least) and its the same one I make with Nonis and trying to get rid of the old core and finally having reason to do so. If Nonis were to succeed this season Aquilini couldnt fire him , this was justification in getting rid of the last of Orca Bay's guy now. |

If Aquilini does have a guy in mind, and he's with a playoff team (e.g. Jim Nill), we won't hear about it for a while, I imagine.
Which Italians are with playoff teams? Or maybe it'll just be a hydra of Ray Ferraro, Sergio Momesso and Luciano Borsato? _________________
