I have to admit, getting swept in the playoffs- by a young team that really, IMHO, didn't play up to their potential anyway- and trying to blame your playoff failure on a backup goalie who never played a game or stepped on the ic, is a little bit much!
I think Emery has always had discipline issues, even when he was playing well, and this year, with the big contract, those issues just kind of got the better of him. I don't think he's, in and of himself, a locker room cancer or anything, but I do think he needs a firm hand to make sure the work ethic and the steadiness under pressure is there- in the room, at practice, on the ice at game time. I also think Emery is still a viable number-one goalie in this league, but not necessary a top-flight one. I also don't think he's a better goalie than Gerber, and since I can't think of any teams that are desperate for a starter, that will probably pretty much seal his fate in the coming season, whether his contract ends up being bought out or not. _________________ (Working in a Call Centre) + (Being a Leafs Fan) = (One HUGE glutton for punishment)

No he certainly doesn't deserve a lion's share of the blame, his antics likely just sped up the inevitable.
Incidentally, why the hell would McGrattan deserve a raise? What'd he do that was so special?
If the raving about Cody Bass on HF is to be believed (hehheheheheh) then Chris Kelly is probably on the outs. Again, I'd like the Avs to take a look. We need a viable checking center...especially if he's good on faceoffs. |

Sask, I think you noted before that Gerber was high-maintenance in terms of needing a goalie coach, and that may have had an impact on his early performance in Ottawa. Do you know what the goaltending coach situation is now? I wonder if Gerber outgrew that but perhaps Emery as a full-time goalie(as he wasn't in his rookie season) would need that kind of steady influence... _________________ Bring back the old OTP!

Reading between the lines, here, I see a lot of "not me, not me, not my fault..."
| Quote: |
| "I don't take responsibilty for the team losing in the playoffs I can tell you that much," Emery told reporters Thursday as the team cleaned out their lockers. |
| Quote: |
| "Yeah it was a really bad year for me," said Emery. "The worst year I've had - on and off the ice - it just wasn't enjoyable at all. I learned a lot of things but that's about it - not too many positives." |
| Quote: |
| "I wasn't playing as much as I wanted to and they (management) we coming at me, upset with me - I was pissed off," said Emery. "I thought, you take a team to the finals you're the guy until you're bad enough not to be the guy kind of thing, and I shouldn't have treated it that way. I've worked for everything I've gotten in my life and I should have just worked to get back there. I approached it the wrong way." |

Emery got "his guy" in Ottawa. I can't remember his name, but one of the things people pointed to at one point was that the organization bent over backwards for Emery over the summer, ditched Low as goalie coach and brought in the guy Emery had recommended/worked with in the off-season. I still think that getting Low as far away from the goalies as possible was a good move, he had a poor track record in Ottawa from before and really appeared to be way too old school, not very up to date in his methods.
How this effected Gerber I don't know, but obviously enough to spend the whole year wearing a plain black mask. _________________ It's backwards time. |

Emery has worn his Senators uni for the last time...
Anyone else think he and Mike Smith will vie for the starting goalie role in Tampa? _________________ ... Because the old one, is well, old.

Can you imagine Emery and Tortorella? I don't think that'll happen _________________ Bring back the old OTP!

Tampa should stay away... Ramo didn't get ruined, and in fact improved during the year. I say keep him to compete with Smith.
There aren't a lot of goaltending openings for Emery to get back into a NHL job right away. I can only think of two likely retirements in Hasek and Joseph as well... possibly Kolzig and Thibault, I suppose. Roloson will play out his contract. _________________ It's backwards time. |

I think Emery ends up in LA competing with Ersberg to mind the shop until Bernier is ready. Labarbs had his shot this year and didn't do enough and Cloutier (if he is still under contract) is Cloutier. _________________
