We have a lot of emigration shows on German tv since more than 100,000 of my countrymen are leaving Germany every year.

Whenever it comes to emigration to Canada it seems people go to the Winnipeg/Steinbach region, sometimes New Foundland. Never Toronto/Ottawa/Montreal.

But there is only ONE profession: Being a truckdriver. Shocked

Is it possible no Canadian wants to do the job?

I'm just asking.

My guess is no formal education required(and Canada is bad as far as I know for recognizing foreign education credentials) besides the special licensing(that I know of anyways) and I'm guessing decent wage because they have to get someone to do it, and generally I think people coming over look for work quickly(which is why you see a lot of immigrants in factory jobs and driving cabs too. Same reasons).

Maybe you're right. None of the folks can speak English properly.

It also likely depends on what kind of work and educational background that the person coming over has. As a Canadian-born English-first-language in the tech industry, I've been a minority by far in the two tech companies that I've worked for, as far as testing and development are concerned. Language isn't so much of an issue there, and as you said, the language requirements of being a truck driver are likely lower than many other professions.

The funny thing is that the better educated people leave for Australia/ New Zealand or South Africa mostly doing their own business.

The lower educated leave for Canada or Spain.

I have a couple of uncles who are/were truck drivers... definitely not much education required. The one never got his Grade 12, and the other is... well...

There's lots of demand in that industry. The rail industry went south in the 80s and a lot of extra shipping demands went to truck drivers. Also, it's a free trade continent so there are lots of routes that go all over the place.

Our shipping industry, because of the failure of the railroad industry, is pretty inefficient.

My uncle works in the industry, but not as a driver. He works in the back end. He actually made the business plan and started up a division for a guy that takes empty containers that would normally be shipped somewhere empty, and fills em with stuff.

Norway, Sweden and Danmark are popular destinations, too. Many carpenters and masons are going there while physicians mostly leave for Austria and Switzerland.
Like I said when it comes to Canada it's always truckdrivers. Strange. Rolling Eyes
