http://www.cbc.ca/health/story/2008/04/14/medical-marijuana.html

Quote:
Medical marijuana users are on the hook for more than $500,000 in unpaid bills for government-certified weed, raising questions about the effectiveness of Health Canada's troubled dope program.

Newly disclosed statistics show that Health Canada has sent final notices —and sometimes dispatched a collection agency as well — to 462 registered users since government marijuana first became available in 2003.

No one wants to pay for last night's high. The Feds need to hire dealers to ensure they get cash, upfront.

Any stoner who can't at least work hard enough for POT doesn't deserve to be a stoner in the first place.

Well,I don't think it's fair to call medicinal users addicts.

I get migraines, and the one of the few things that helps with the nausea and the migraine is smoking pot. I mostly smoke it for the nausea aspect. If I throw up when I have a migraine, I end up in the hospital. I don't like hospitals.

oh - and one of my friends has MS - one of the few things that helps her with the pain and spasms of MS is pot.

It's not ideal razz, but it helps. It really does have medicinal value.

Fair enough, I'm no doctor, I'm just suspicious that there aren't other medicines that could have the same effect....

I would prefer something fun like morphine when I get a migraine - but apparently most doctors frown on that!

Actually - most doctors these days frown on prescribing any kind of narcotic pain reliever - which sucks for people who actually suffer with pain. I find it bizarre that there are legit reasons for needing painkillers - and yet doctors have become afraid of prescribing the very thing that will help.

Makes no sense to me.
But I'm not a doctor either!

I would way rather prescribe pot to someone suffering a medical condition than peddle some pharmaceuticallly manufactured drug that does ralatively the same thing.
I too know some medical pot users and can vouch for it.

Let's face it though, if I had my way everyone would get a pot prescription.

I certainly don't think its fair to expect the government to pick up the tab for a habit be it medicinal or not. These folks ought to be consider themselves lucky their government acknowledges their plight.

Again,The key word here is medicinal,This isn't a free injection site for heroin users,This is being used as a medicine for people with very real pain problems such as terminal cancer and such,It is not a free dope program for users who are just looking to get high.My father in law never smoked weed but when he was going through the end stages of terminal cancer he found that the medicinal marijuana was indeed a powerful pain killer which also helped his waning appetite. How can that be bad???

hey that's cool man. I see where you are coming from.

I don't buy this program...and apparently neither do the patients. They should just be allowed to grow their own weed if it gives them relief.
