Why exactly was he not drafted in the first place? Seems more like the next Jiri Dopita than anything else to me...

Click on the link... they actually mention Dopita (who was 9 years older).

Ah, okay...now I see it.

Well if I were him I'd sign w/Detroit. Toronto may offer more money and make dumber promises, but he'd be in the best position to succeed there.

Why do I suddenly have a feeling that not only will Brunnstrom sign in Detroit, but Naslund will as well?

Alright freaky... You win... I'll give the new GM as much latitude... oh wait - THEY DON'T HAVE ONE YET.

Oh, I'll give him as much latitude - absolutely. In fact, my expectations are far, far higher of whoever takes the role (who the heck would work for this owner after what he's done to his former GM and at the same time, submarine a pretty damned good FA prospect in Brunnstrom?) After all, he'll inherit a terrific goalie, a pretty damned solid d, the Sedins and Kesler, a Top 10 pick in the draft, plus prospects like Bourdon, Schneider, et al, and most importantly, $15M+ in cap space. Because I don't think DN had those elements to work with when he took the job. Mad

So far, this new owner makes John McCaw look like a fricking Rhodes scholar. Evil or Very Mad

It's about "Leadership" after all, according to Aquilini. And so far, I wouldn't follow this Owner anywhere. I have very serious concerns about the direction (or lack thereof) of this club and it seems the word is out.

I agree Cunner,Aquahead is a bonafide fuckup and I can't see anyone of value getting in line for this job. It's not so much the firing that gets me,It's the fucking timing of the firing and the lack of a replacement,If we lose Brunstrom because of this and he turns out to be all that than this may turn out to be one of the worst moves in the history of the organization,How is this guy doing so well in business?I mean don't you have to look at all the angles when you make multi million dollar decisions reguarding your business?,Shouldn't you have a plan of transition so as to make these kind of moves easier on everyone?SHOULDN'T YOU JUST THINK BEFORE YOU ACT???, STUPID Evil or Very Mad

I heard JP Barry the other day , those demands werent as bad as it was printed out to be. He is willing to earn a spot with a team knowing he could start in the AHL , he's just looking for the best oppurtunity to crack the top 6 and he was commited to Nonis according to JP Barry. Right or wrong gotta chalk that one up for a plus for Nonis if Fabian goes elsewhere..NOnis had him , gotta give him credit for recruiting the kid.

Of course Dreger would. He's a tool.

How does it make any sense that Brunnstrom would choose Toronto over Vancouver because he doesn't know who the hell the Canucks will choose as GM? Laughing

Why is everyone going apeshit for Fabian Brunnstrom anyways?

I'm sure he's an excellent prospect, but TSN is talking about him every day and the CBC After 40 crew devotes their weekly segment to him. The amount of coverage given to him doesn't equal the type of impact player he'll likely become.

Even if he comes in and excels right away, I find it hard to believe he'll turn around a couple of non-playoff teams like Vancouver and Toronto.

Kenny Jonsson on the other hand...

Oh, I can understand why Canucks fans are going apeshit - signing a blue chipper is a big deal. What confuses me is why national broadcasts are steering the Fabiandwagon right now with such vigor.

Correction: it doesn't surprise me. Non-NHL players are like porn to hockey fans, and they can't get enough. It merely disappoints me.

I can't help but think of Eero Somervouri when Brunnstrom is talked about.

He always sucked, even in Europe. Laughing

Somervoari was supposed to win the Calder in 2003-04 when Tampa finally brought him over (he had dominated the Finnish league for 2 or 3 years running and was 23 or 24 when he came over). He never played a game and was a 2nd liner in the AHL. Laughing

Gillis was asked about Brunnstrom in a scrum after the main presser. He just said he knows about him but doesnt know anything of the agreed upon terms , and hasnt spoken to JP Barry ... he just kept it " no comment" .

It's sounding less and less likely that Vancouver will be destination of choice for ol Fabio Rolling Eyes

I'm betting he'll be lucky if he ends up being the next Niklas Sundstrom. Laughing
