For some of us the offseason has already begun. For others the postseason continues, but it's not necessarily too early to think about next year.

So then, what's your team's biggest need going into the offseason and how might that be addressed in the FA market? Cap room, feasibility, or reality need not apply if you wish.
If you'd like comment on a team that's not yours either.
I guess when it comes to the Avs (assuming Foote and to a lesser extent, Liles are re-signed) the biggest need is a center with an actual defensive conscience manning the third line, preferrably one who actually holds his own on faceoffs, since that is by far our biggest weakness in what otherwise is a pretty talented center corps. This especially becomes a concern if both Forsberg and Sakic decide to retire, leaving us with Tyler Arnason and Paul Stastny...yipes.
That being said, first and foremost would be Craig Conroy. He's definitely in decline, but it gives us a two-way center who could if need be get bumped up to 2nd or even 1st line in the event another center gets injured or Arnie goes back to not caring. Not sure how strong he is on faceoffs though.
Bobby Holik wouldn't be a bad option either, so long as he's realistic about proper compensation. I'm wary about him mainly because while he will help us on faceoffs and anchor the 3rd line well, I don't think he'll help us a whole lot on the PK (another glaring weakness) and I just don't know how much he has left in the tank. |

My teams biggest need it to not sign anybody and play what they got and suck.
If there are any know team cancers willing to sign one year that would be cool. _________________ Lang may yer lum reek! |

Montreal is in post-season evaluation mode, centering exclusively around Mark Streit and his future role on the team. He's had a rough playoffs up until Game 7 when he finally broke through. All other UFA's are expendable to some degree, although I could envision a scenraio where Breezy sticks around as the #7/#8 guy. _________________ It's backwards time. |

You must be relieved when you wake up in a cold sweat after that. _________________ Bring back the old OTP!

Weak UFA class. Here are the names I found especially interesting:
G: Theo, Christo
D: Hollywood, Campbell, Liles
F: Hossa, Avery, Malone, Vrbata, Brunette, Hagman, Ryder _________________ Beat my drum down in Mexico! To Tijuana, Tijuana here we go!

| Hossa's supposed to be coming to Beantown, that will do as far as free agents go. Apparently Zhamnov has been counting against the cap, so that's 4.1 million more that comes off the books in June... |

He's been "counting" except because of his long term injury you guys were allowed to spend an extra 4.1m above the cap. So it's not really savings by losing him.
I somehow doubt Hossa has made up his mind on where he's going. _________________ It's backwards time. |

| I don't think we get Hossa, but more than just the Boston rags have been linking him to us, and he does train with Chara in the offseason... |

Hossa to Boston makes a lot of sense given the Chara/Chia connection. Besides not unlike the Chara signing I'm sure Chiarelli has been 'negotiating' with Hossa for two months already. _________________ Beat my drum down in Mexico! To Tijuana, Tijuana here we go!

How
Dunno where we find the 7 million that's all. Wideman needs a huge raise, Kobasew is up, and you gotta figure he keeps Manny. I'd buy Manny and Murray out, save 4 million of the 8, spend that on resigning Wideman and Auld. Problem is I don't think that saves enough money, and he also wants to ADD a puck moving blueliner...
Me thinks either of Lash or Hunner better be ready... |
