5 to 1 and Franzen with a hat trick. Fun game to watch.
On to Colorado. _________________ No one can make you feel inferior without your permission. |

How to deal with the altitude?
| Quote: |
The biggest obstacle facing the Red Wings as they go to Denver for the next two games could be the altitude.
Many pro sports teams have remarked over the years how the altitude can adversely affect teams that aren't used to it.
The Wings might have gotten a head start by spacing out playing time during Saturday's 5-1 victory.
"That was one of the most positive things about (Saturday's) game is that our shift length was way down from the game before," coach Mike Babcock said. "We were able to keep the tempo higher, and that's what you're going to have to do when you go to Colorado.
"You're out of gas right away (because of the altitude). We are going to have to have four lines going."
Hockey teams usually combat the altitude in a simple, yet effective way.
"Short shifts," said Henrik Zetterberg, of the best way to combat the mile-high altitude. "You just have to block it out and keep the shifts short. Sometimes it's tough to catch your breath." |
Nice, Babcock.
I like the way that the Hudler-Helm-McCarty line has played in the limited ice time that they've seen. Hopefully if Detroit needs to spread out the ice time, these guys will be ready for it. Babcock also has plenty of forwards to spread the PK minutes around to, which will allow him to keep more guys fresh. _________________ Bring back the old OTP!

No, it's just that we have absolutely ZERO chance with Budaj in net and the Avs know it. He's decent but no way can he steal a game. Theo can, and that's our only shot at winning even one game, let alone four.
And the altitude won't be a problem for the Wings any more than it is for the Avs. Unfortunately they've just never had quite the right personnel (i.e. SPEED throughout the lineup) or the right gameplan or the proper conditioning to truly utilize home ice advantage by basically wearing out the opposition. |

This one is certifiably over. Avs injuries all over the joint. Theodore seems to be back to normal. Time to follow the Nuggets lead. _________________ -UP THE IRONS! |

It would be nice if the Av's would be kind enough to win one out of two of these games in Denver. I've got tickets to game 5 back in Detroit and I would like to put them to an appropriate use, thank you very much. _________________ "The greatest victory a man can win is victory over himself."

No such luck, RW. I think the Wings want to end this series as fast as I do. But who knows? There is always the next game, aliens might invade the Wings' bodies and...... _________________ No one can make you feel inferior without your permission. |

Funny moment on Versus at the end of Detroit-Avs game 3. They were talking about what happened to parity and how there are 3 series that are 3-0 right now. Melrose says "Yup, one mistake and you can find yourself down 3-0." And they're like "How does one mistake lead to 3 lopsided 3-0 series?" And he answers with "Well, a 5-1 game and two one goal games". He's stitting there with a smile on his face all proud of himself while the other guys are thinking "what the fuck is this guy on?" I'm surprised the guy manages to keep his clothes on during Avs broadcasts, although he's probably touching himself constantly under the desk whenever Petey is on the ice or they're showing a replay. _________________ Bring back the old OTP!

Well it's HOCKEY NIGHT IN PITTSBURGH for me. Got Versus on the hotel TV and will settle in to watch the Pens and Wings close out their respective series (I hope). I told the front desk to ignore any yelling coming from my room. _________________ No one can make you feel inferior without your permission. |

Franzen scored as many goals as the Avs did in this series
Set the Wings record for goals in a series, as well as breaking the Wings record for most goals in a playoffs(held by 3 players, Brett Hull in 02 being the most recent). he also broke the NHL record for hat tricks in a 4-game series.
He's also the first guy since Kurri in 85 to get 2 hat tricks in a series(I think Kurri had 3 in a ridiculous series against Chicago). Was Marleau the last guy to get 2 hat tricks in one playoff year? _________________ Bring back the old OTP!

That's pretty crazy... what's very D'Oh!-like about Franzen to a Canucks' fan is that he's the player the Wings "settled" for when Nonis traded up to grab Edler out from under them.
Right when we think we've finally out-clevered the Wings, their consolation prize has to be a star too... _________________

Well, I'm sure had Vancouver had that pick, they would have selected some 6'7", 186 lb. 18-year-old from Outer Mongolia who scouts project to be the Chinese-Zdeno Chara... _________________ ... Because the old one, is well, old.
