*sigh*

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=236386

Stastny out for the rest of the series, or just this game. Same difference.

Wolski still out. Smyth doubtful. Forsberg iffy. No earthly idea about Hannan, don't really care.

At least TRY and keep Franzen off the scoresheet, please?

Laughing

And to think he could be playing for the Nucks right now.

Shudder to think this, but it's a very real possibility that this is Joe Sakic's last game in the NHL. He's been insisting on one-year deals the last couple seasons just so he has the option of walking away and not hurt the team cap-wise. He's been dealing with injuries (I don't think he's 100% recovered from his sports hernia surgery and he's dealing with a few other bumps and bruises) more and more and might just call it a day. If I were a betting man I'd say he's back next year, but for the first time I have serious doubts.

If he indeed does retire it makes bringing Foote back that much more imperative.

Burnaby Joe still has plenty left in the tank. He'll be back next season, perhaps not at 100% of his peak; likely somewhere between 50 and 75%, which means he'll still find ways to ventilate the Canucks in every game he plays.

If he's going to walk away before the 2010 Prolympics, then this is when he'll do it. If he comes back next year, he's staying for 2 more years.

This is a very sad thought. I and all Red Wing fans have just been through this. We knew Yzerman would retire one day, but when he did, it hit me like a cannonball. We all remember the last picture taken of Yzerman in his jersey....walking into the tunnel after the last defeat. It still tears at my heart.

One always hopes that the Hero goes out with a Cup in his hands, a la Ray Bourque. But that does not happen usually.

Sakic is a very class act.

Very kind words for Burnaby Joe. Thanks Lil.

Anyway, no surprise but supremely sucky nonetheless, Forsberg definitely out. Too lazy to post the link.

Will we see Stewart? May as well...he'd probably do marginally better than Jaro Hlinka or Wyatt fucking Smith. Nothing to lose at this point.

Oh boy, not a good start for Theo. Samuelsson lets a clear slap shot go from near the top of the circle on the boards and it gets through.

Are you fucking kidding me? Holmer gets plowed from behind in front of the net and someone else trips over his stick going to the corner as Holmer was still going down and he gets called for tripping.

Detroit gets a quick outlet pass, Zetterberg takes it in on a 2-on-1 and feeds Holmstrom for a really ackward-looking one-timer Laughing

MUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUULLLLLEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! Filppula and Mule work a 2-on-1 and Franzen puts it out of his skates to put in through Theo.

Will Theo be back in after the first? Detroit will open the 2nd on the PP.

Holy fuck. Detroit is averaging 15 more shots a game than their opponent in these playoffs. They averaged 10.9 in the regular season.

Buddah starts the second, Avs take a clear the puck over the glass and Z makes it 4-1 on a one-timer.
