Cut Copy - In Ghost Colours

One of my favourite bands making music today. Not sure if this album is as good as Bright Like Neon Love, but I'm liking the further integration of rock and dance sounds. "Unforgettable Season" is an early triumph from my first listen.

I just bought this, and will give it a real lesson in the coming days. I did enjoy Bright Like Neon Love, so we'll see. I also picked up the new Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds album and the new Portishead. "Today's Lesson" by Nick Cave is fabulous... it sounds like something off of Loaded by the Velvet Underground, but I'll take Nick Cave any day of the week over Lou Reed. And that's not meant to be a slight on Lou.

U2 - the song "Bad"

Might just be tied with the song Elvis Presley and America as my 2 favorite U2 songs ever. I loved the Unforgettable Fire. Best U2 album ever.

Also one of my favorites. It's really simple but Bono's voice is at its best.

You know what Patty?

Toronto is only an hour or so from Buffalo - You should come to Toronto and play for the weekend!

There's so many great concerts this summer. And there's nothing like a patio on Queen Street in the summer. We could even invite Bosc and stinky and Sam and US679 and Hounsy!

Just a thought!

I have a friend at U of Toronto too. She's also been bugging me to come up. So its a possibility. As soon as I can manage to save some money. Smile

Party in T.O.! I'll bring the booze!

Anyways, this is a music thread, so here's a 70's mixtape I recently made for an upcoming summer roadtrip. All the songs are designed to be fun songs while staring at the tree-laden corridor between Montreal and southern VT:

1. "Passenger" by Iggy Pop
2. "Glory" by Television
3. "Bitch" by the Rolling Stones
4. "Rock Me Gently" by Andy Kim
5. "Timothy" by the Buoys (the only ever hit song about cannibalism)
6. "Wise Up Girl" by David Geddes
7. "Whatcha Gonna Do?" by Peter Tosh
8. "The Night Chicago Died" by Paper Lace
9. "Up to Me" by Jethro Tull
10. "Livin' Thing" by Electric Light Orchestra
11. "A Spaceman Came Traveling" by Chris de Burgh
12. "Shot By Both Sides" by Magazine (the riff from this song was used by Radiohead for the song "Just")
13. "Indian Reservation" by Paul Revere and the Raiders
14. "I'm Straight" by Modern Lovers
15. "Diamonds in the Mine" by Leonard Cohen
16. "Out of the Blue" by Roxy Music (the mixtape gets a bit rougher at this point)
17. "Freddie's Dead" by Curtis Mayfield
18. "Gone Away" by Roberta Flack
19. "Shadowplay" by Joy Division
20. "Who'll Pay Reparations for My Soul?" by Gil Scott-Heron

Most of the songs are hooky and easy to sing along to, which was the idea. Usually for roadtrip mixtapes I put in Neil Young's "Walk On," but I omitted it this year, along with fun staple "Political Science" by Randy Newman. Length: 78:12 m:s

A true masterpiece.

I haven’t listened to this album in its entirety for years.

Just this week I was listening to and marvelling over the masterpiece that is Paul's Boutique. I had to play "Looking down the barrel of a gun" 3 or 4 times when I remembered how good it is.

The Formation of Damnation.........The New CD released on 4/29

Pretty much the whole original lineup is back for Testament (minus Clemente)....most importantly Skolnick is back writing and playing guitar again (first Time since The Ritual) so Chuck has settled his screaming down.

I certainly didn't enjoy Testament running off into their Death and Black Metal era. But hopefully they can string some decent new stuff together with Skolnick back writing.

This Shit rocks.

Skolnick is one of the most amazing guitarist I've ever heard.

Bee Gees.

I don't understand how people can talk up Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys as geniuses and not give at least some credit to the Bee Gees, who were basically doing the same thing but in a more British fashion. If anything I'd say the Bee Gees might have been better at harmonizing than the Beach Boys, and "Kokomo" represents a far lower nadir than the Saturday Night Fever stuff.

Brian Wilson was the better songwriter and producer, but the Bee Gees 60's stuff is underrated.

Americans are better at making music than the British.
