Another Avs defenseman, #34, tried to stickhandle out as the last man back with Zetterberg on him this time. Puck stolen, Zetterberg gets a shot.

well I am certainly not impressed with this series but its nothing I didn't expect with the Avs having the stars align just to make the playoffs. Too many injuries too little heart.

Franzen blocks a shot halfway through the second period when his team is leading 5-1...

Wow. Sakic at the point and Detroit gets it out, Zetterberg waits out the 2-on-1 and gives it to Franzen for the shorthander.

8th of the series for Mule ties Gordie's Detroit record for most in a series.

Blaming the refs for your team's troubles is such a cop out..

Man, 7-1 when I come back from missing the 2nd. I've got 5 Red Wings in my money pool, so I'm glad they decided that they'd score so many goals as to make up for the fact they aren't playing any extra games this series. Laughing

I feel bad for Theodore. His second round record is awful, but really, he's only played on lower seeds and aside from that Colorado/Dallas series a couple years back, he's been the only reason the team made it to the second round so the teams were due to lose in the 2nd round.

Still hard to believe he hasn't won a single game in Round 2 since that horrific 3rd period back in 2002 against the fucking Whalers.

Frazen gets the hat trick and breaks Gordie's record. And the Wings continue to put the puck in.

Avs get on one a 5-on-3.

Franzen's asking price on his next contract keeps going up Mad Amazing that he and Zetterberg will account for a cap hit of only 3.5 or so next year though Shocked

Franzen's got an even strength, power play, and shorthanded goal. Will he get a penalty shot goal? Don't think he can get the EN goal tonight to tie Lemieux's insane game. Laughing

I got 12 points from this game tonight in my pool. Shocked Cool

Man, if only Montreal could get to the 3rd round I could put the pool money into my budget. Mad

I can't believe I was the only one picking off Detroit players, though. And I left Franzen on the table way too long. Laughing

I'm glad we were able to end it in four and Franzen get more. I really hope that this isn't the end for Burnaby Joe though Mad Sad He's still got a lot of great hockey left...

Lidstrom only played 16:09 last night. Helm, Hudler and McCarty all saw more than 12 minutes apiece. The ice time was really spread around among the forwards with Cleary getting the most at 16:53.

Humiliating.

Well...guess we'll see what Giguere is made of this offseason. He currently has a number of players (and one coach) without contracts. Who will he bring back?

Avs basically gave up after the 2nd 2-on-1. And who was on the ice for both of them? Yup...that's right. Scott Hannan. Rolling Eyes

According to the morning show on The Fan, Sakic was more than a little emotional after the loss. Could it be that he really is leaning toward retirement?

Also, someone overheard Forsberg saying to Scotty Bowman that he's done, that he can't take it anymore. It could be both he and Sakic are limping off toward the sunset together...

Avs finally specified exactly what injuries/illnesses afflicted the Avs in this series:

Theodore - Apparently WAY more sick than we were led to believe. Apparently before game 1 he was so sick he couldn't practice and after being pulled in that same game he was too ill to stick around the rink to watch from the bench. Give him credit for at least trying to stick it out, but in hindsight Q should've just put Budaj in for game 4. We were going to lose either way.

Wolski - 3-4 broken ribs suffered when a Wings player fell on top of him.

Stastny - MCL tear. I'm thinking he won't be ready to go until a little ways into the season.

Laperriere - Broken foot.

Hannan - Broken foot.

Forsberg - Apparently it wasn't just one groin strain, it was two. He tried to play in game 3 but it was obvious he shouldn't have. As mentioned earlier, apparently he told Scotty Bowman he was done for good this time.

Not sure how bad Smyth's injury was, probably a broken foot or really bad contusion as he suffered the injury blocking a shot from the point. Sakic was never 100% healthy and was playing hurt in some capacity during all this though he wouldn't dare let on. Given his emotional state after last night's game, I'm thinking he's done. Sad
