Dallas got an early PP but couldn't convert.

Detroit converts on a 5-on-3, which they hadn't done yet in these playoffs and blew a few of last season in the Western Finals at very inopportune times.

Maltby already making his presence felt with an open-ice hit on Ribeiro.

Holmer has firmly planted himself in front of Turco.

What a penalty kill by Detroit.

McCarty is sitting for Maltby. Looks like Babbles likes Helm centering the fourth line.

Awesome shift by the fourth line and Maltby draws a penalty from Peterson.

Dallas came really close but a pass was just out of reach. Would have been a goal if the pass was in reach.

Lidstrom makes a great pinch to keep it in the zone with Dallas struggling to make a change and Zetterberg draws a Modano penalty.

Bob McKenzie with Mike Milbury sitting right next to him:

"Mike Milbury should be the next coach of the Maple Leafs. He's a much better coach than a GM"

Laughing

Detroit's top line spends an entire shift against Ribeiro, Lehtinen and Morrow in Dallas' zone.

2 huge friggin stops! One by each goalie. Man, reach across and get the paddle across the goal line stop on the wraparound for Turco...Ozzy with a breakaway stop on Hagman(I think).

Ribeiro takes a hooking penalty on Drake. Sweet.

Monty Babcock's Flying Circus is having a hell of a game.

Yes! Holmer sitting in front of Turco and Lidstrom puts the shot on and it hits Holmer's leg and in.
Strange turn of events. Holmer was actually standing in the crease and it counts. Normally he's outside of the crease, not even touching the goalie and it gets called off.

Kronwall with a huge hit on Miettinen at his own blue line on an outlet! Healey points out that even if he had missed, Detroit still had 3 more men back.

Lidstrom gets called for the obvious hook. Dallas going on the PP.

That Morrow tip would have gone in on Hasek, no question.

Fuck what a nice breakout and breakaway goal. Pass by Kronwall to Samuelsson who gives it right to Filppula who catches the defense and Turco flat-footed and buries the rolling puck low blocker on the breakaway.

Dallas gets a lot of good pressure near the end of the period, Kronwall plays the puck blind off the boards, it hits Filppula and bounces out, Morrow battles his way to the goal and gets a rebound goal.

4-1 Detroit through 2.

Rafalski's gotta make quicker passes instead of holding it on for too long. Sometimes he gets lots of time and looks for too pretty a pass and gets caught. Make a quick, safe pass.
