It's too bad, this team finally got good about 2 years too late for him, in the meantime he had to suffer through the fiasco that was the Jagr era.

McPhee's handling of his two most popular and most loyal veterans in Bondra and Kolzig has been shameful to say the least. Did Huet make the Caps that much better?

Have to go along with the "Emphatic yes!" crowd there. The Caps don't make the playoffs without Crystal Ball, so the trade (and effect on Kölzig) was worth it.

Kolzig confirms he's done as a Cap, but he isn't ready to retire just yet. I can't see how he'll find a situation that's good for his family and gives him a chance to be a starter on a contender. I think his competitive side is clouding his judgment here.

A man after my own heart. Laughing

I think Kolzig probably is done as a starter, and I'm not sure a backup job/mentorship role would appeal to him.

Depending what happens with the two old guys in Detroit, he might actually be a good fit there, maybe playing a little less that half the games next year, either splitting with an old guy or young Howards.

Then again, the wings could probably strap a side of beef to the crossbar and do just fine. Mad

Ozzy signed a 3-year extension during the season, so he'll be here for a while barring something unforseen. If the Wings still don't think Howard is ready for the show, Kolzig might be a good option as a backup/1A(I still don't think he's as bad as EL says he is, and would benefit from a team that plays such a great defensive game as Detroit) for Ozzy, as I'm not sure he could handle a heavy workload anymore. Though after playing in Washington for so long, he might fall asleep between the pipes for Detroit...

According to ESPN, Ollie plays defense for Anaheim:
