So.....I am still waiting on my hunt for an LCD screen in the man's room.
I've noticed a disturbing thing with LCDs....the judders or jagged edges.....whenever action gets going it becomes jagged. I first noticed this while watching HD NESN on opening day....I was thinking to myself well this isn't what I expected.......This is HD?
So again I watched HD ESPN and the same thing......when the action picks up...out come those judders and jagged edges.........
The CNET editors even mention Hockey in their review of the Samsung LN52A650:

| We also turned to the same hockey match between the Ducks and the Kings and noticed blurring of the puck much less frequently. It was still there in some instances, such as a flip pass into the air that spanned half of the rink before landing, but it was much less noticeable. Of course, the level of AMP made a big difference--we saw more blurring and artifacts around the puck in High mode, fewer in Medium, about the same in Low, and none in Off. For that reason, we still recommend watching hockey, and indeed all sports, in Off mode. |
The New Samsung LN-4681 F has LED Motion Plus but it wasn't tested with hockey. I've even considered the Sony KDS-55A3000 but I am worried about the viewing angle. It seems like every new TV now has that 120Hz de-juddering capability but.....as the reviewers indicate it often makes the issue worse.
I'd also like to make sure that the TV is Wi-Fi enabled and/or supports downloadable Firmware upgrades via USB.
Anybody watching HD hockey and seeing this? _________________ -UP THE IRONS! |

I haven't seen much hockey in HD (most of the canucks games were in SD - stupid nucks...) but when I have, I haven't noticed this... But my rig isn't an LCD TV... Thanks for the heads-up, Harmie; I'll be sure to look into this when we finally upgrade our tube TV. _________________ ... Because the old one, is well, old.

ONly time I've seen HD Hockey has been at bars in then a Bruins game or 2 at a friend's house who had HD via a projector & pull down shade/screen ... May have been better if the room was darker, but the picture on any standard def. set would have been better than that!
LCD's will only continue to improve .... Plasmas seem to be going out, but I do agree, they seem to have a stronger picture. Only drawbacks are power consumption (they run hot!) & potential for screen burn-in ... and they're heavy. _________________

Hmmm. Tuzer what do you have? What resolution is your HD broadcast coming in at? I have seen it several times now and it seems to be the norm. _________________ -UP THE IRONS! |

I have a 60" LG Plasma which is fairly new,As far as what resolution my HD comes in at,I'm not quite sure how to figure that out harmy but it is Bell express view if that gives you any idea.Anyway,The only problem I ever have with the HD broadcasts is the lipsync is sometimes in need of adjustment,Other than that,I don't even want to watch regular broadcasts anymore,The difference is phenomenal imo |
