Saw GTA IV for the '360 last night. Crazy. The reviews are consistently awesome for this game - never seen that before. I will have to buy this game at some point in time.

I've heard the same...

funny that MADD is protesting the fact that you can drive drunk in the game
alright that you can murder and rape, Laughing

from what I've heard, the driving drunk scene actually makes people want to NEVER drive drunk, it makes them sick to their stomach

funny also that after all the hub bub about the Hot Coffee patch, this edition actually lets you see the action when you pick up a prostitute - minus the nudity, of course Laughing

PC World's Matt Peckham wrote about that in his blog - what these people don't seem to mind also is that other entertainment alternatives like movies feature violent images where you as the audience have no choice at all in the action after you decide to watch these; at least GTA IV allows you to make those choices dynamically, and experience them (albeit safely) in your own home...

My nephew was over last week and he showed me what this is like and yeah, it's pretty miserable - you can't drive in a straight line at all... I would have preferred that they blurred the outer edges (yes, I've been that drunk before), and in extreme situations, make everything monochromatic - red and black... Laughing I think the last time that happened to me, I was on the verge of alcohol poisoning... Laughing

I saw the worst lap dance ever... If that is anything like the sex, it can't be all that appealing to anyone over 18.... Laughing

An interesting thought-piece... Why doesn't Apple have a gaming console yet?

I'm only offering guesses but, as a lifelong Apple user I'd suggest...

1. Saturated Market
2. Didn't fit with Jobs' re-invention model.

I bet they would have if Jobs had been their CEO right through the dark years, because there were an insane amount of games available on the //c models and such, but the company got behind on that front and have just decided to forge their own identity with things that they can claim they "invented".

Really, the Wii seems like an Apple product, anyways.

Apple is a big company, but they don't have the capital to enter the console market. Even Microsoft required a huge startup investment they're still paying for. And look what it did to their computer software business?

I also agree there's no market. Apple could consider making the iPod gaming friendly, but given how little they care about gaming on Mac computers, I'm guessing there's little interest.

Apple may not have the capital to enter the console market (yet), especially since it means opening up to third-party production companies to produce games... But I can see them add more functionality to the iPod Touch and iPhone so that they become hand-helds to compete with the DS and PSP (which they are doing now with their recent release of the SDK for the iPhone)... Their strategy seems to be more a case of adding functionality to existing products so that they have strong multifunction capability.... Is it too far-fetched to imagine that they'll develop a way to tie AppleTV with their iPhone/Touch products to have downloadable games?

The wireless phone industry seems to be much more saturated, yet Apple still rolled out the iPhone and has won a passionate following - I can't wait for them to come out with a true 3G phone.

I just wouldn't bet against it... Of course, I wouldn't want to use a $399 iPhone as a console game controller... Laughing

Not really a game but maybe a glimpse of future gaming technology?

I had forgotten that in Test Drive 5, "Normal" difficulty actually means "Absolute Mistake-Free Driving or you finish 5th or 6th".

Orange Box is now only $40!

And I will likely pick up Lego Indiana Jones for the XBox 360 today for - you know - my sons... Smile

Cool: http://www.wired.com/gaming/gamingreviews/commentary/games/2008/06/gamesfrontiers_0603

Can't see it happening for consoles anytime soon. The GPUs are pretty much set in stone unless they come out with a 4th gen game console...

- Next big budget videogame-to-movie disaster is... Gears of War. Confused

- Been playing 5-6 hours of R6V2 with some friends every night since Saturday. Am about 2,500 away from Captain in R6V2... That's about 5 victories in Import/Export. Needless to say work is the furthest thing from my mind these days. Mad

- Don't buy the Nyko Intercooler for your '360. Been reading that the old one has a tandency not to seat the male end of correctly, resulting in a bad connection and potentially melting the Intercooler onto the console. When I read about this this weekend, I tried to remove the Intercooler only to find that it has effectively been crazy-glued to the console. And now I find out that Microsoft voids any warranty protection because the Intercooler is considered an unlicensed third-party peripheral. F you, Bill Gates... Evil or Very Mad
