Watched a TSN clip w/Damien Cox dissing Sutter's job so far, not sure why he was so intent on ripping the C off Elias so quickly.
But the blame can't just be Sutter's alone. On paper (apart from that goalie of course) this looks like a fairly ordinary team, one star in Elias and a whole lotta grinders and young players with limited upside. A serious injury to Colin White doesn't help matters.
On the plus side Devs fans can enjoy watching Scott Gomez currently not earning his vastly inflated paycheck on the other side of the river... |

Parise and Zajac have way more than "limited" upside.
I don't know... perhaps a league-high 9 game road trip to start the year had something to do with it? And Brodeur sucking big time? _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. Exactly. If it's not Steve Simmons calling Steve Molitor the "only" boxer in Canada, or the TSN crew utterly gobsmacked that Markov and Komisarek are elite defencemen, sports journalism has had a rough year.
Everyone wants to be first to say they saw it coming, in this case the long-awaited NJ Devil fall from grace. They typically start off slowly, so I'm not worried. Brodeur might be hurt, though. _________________ John McCain is fit as a fiddle… Is 71 the new 30?” - Fox News' Rich Lowry

It's too bad we just can't ever see a kinder, gentler Sutter. They all have the exact same mindset and approach to coaching, which is understandable, but you'd think with so freakin' many of them one would kind of break the mold as it were.
I don't know, Sutter really doesn't strike me as a guy who is doing anything to earn the respect of his players. It's one thing to treat a bunch of junior league kids like, well, junior league kids, fair or not this is the NHL and you have to balance the big stick with a carrot now and then.
I also don't ever recall a coach or anyone for that matter "calling out" John Madden. I mean, really...calling out John Madden? When has he ever displayed any sort of prima-donna behavior? |
