They whupped the Canes on Friday, play in Pittsburgh tonight.

I was chugging PBR and playing beer pong, so I only caught the first period, and only got home now (although I did play 9 holes in the rain this morning). I hope to watch the Pens game, but I'm going to Bar-B-Barns for ribs first and after that, all bets are off.

I was looking forward to a quiet weekend out of the rain - instead its been wet and/or wild.

That Kovalev one-timer was fucking ridiculous. That was one of the hardest passes resulting in a one-timer goal tht I've ever seen.

No shit, I couldn't believe how freaking quick that was.

The Habs played conservative after the big first period, just waiting for more PP oportunities offensively. I hope it was more due to the fact that they had a game tonight as well, just conserving energy. They let Carolina chip away at the lead, but at least they didn't get any quick strikes that could've really changed the game.

The PP is really clicking, and they are playing well 5 on 5 despite yesterday's results (they scored the first goal 5 on 5 and then relied on the PP because, well, it was there). The PK unit was strong as well.

That rivals the best of Brett Hull

Detroit pulled off one of their own like that last night. Lidstrom fired a rocket over to Zetterberg, who one-timed from one knee while it was rolling and buried it.

One of your new favorite young guns buried the winner last night. Fillpula pulled an outside-inside tuck it under the defenseman's stick and buried it glove side on Roloson. Lefty version of one of Yzerman's favorite moves.

Fuck man, that game got me pumped. And there have already been a couple games like that for me this year. Early last year, we won games by the skin of our teeth. This year, we're starting to take that next step and actually dictating the play, be it physically or offensively. We outshot this team bad, we outhit them, and Komi showed the Flyers what real physicality is all about. Not some lameass desperate fight when you're down 4-1, not some cheap headshot when the game is already decided.

Did we catch our fair share of breaks? Yes. But we earned those breaks with the play. We didn't get those breaks vs. Florida a few weeks ago, but that game had me just as confident because of how we played.

We do need someone other than Kovalev scoring consistently from the wings, though.

And Kyle Chipchura is awesome. He's a natural competitor... he just wants to win more than anyone else out there.

That draft was when I realized Timmins is for real. It was a weak draft and Timmins was able to pull a strong bluechipper out of it. He most likely won't put up the flashy numbers as Radulov - but I bet he'll add much more than points to his team than anybody else in that draft.
