Well, the last time I posted a ridiculing what sounds like an absurd rumor, it turned out to be true two days later, so...

http://www.cknw.com/Channels/Reg/SportsLocal/Story.aspx?ID=1005934

It sounds like the boys at 980 read the article in the Globe and Mail and are now blowing this out of proportion... Has anyone heard of this? This doesn't sound like its coming from Naslund... I mean, even if it's true, why air dirty laundry in public like this? He has a relationship with Gillis, he can just pick up the phone and tell Gillis directly instead of making this public...

Old news... HFBoards kicked this rumor around about a week and a half ago. I seriously doubt it's true as reported. It's rational enough, so it's perfectly believable, but why on earth would the media ever know, even if he had...

All the same, he's a UFA and it's perfectly within his rights not to sign somewhere because of a coach.

The latest 'controversy': Is Tony Gallagher an Aquilini fellater?

apparently AV's job is still up in the air , they've been having meetings for over a week and Gillis said a "final decision" will be made this weekend!? strange. I havent been keeping up with the whole AV story but strange nonetheless...

Dave Pratt thinks AV will be fired. His logic is that Gillis is making the impression that he's giving everybody a fair chance but in reality he's cleaning house. This is Pratt's feelings.

I agree with the thinking that AV will finish out his contract at the least unless he steps down. I agree with the Get Out of Jail card theory , in that Gillis will have 1 Get out of Jail card if he keeps AV caz that will be the first major move to make if the Canucks suck again. Plus the week and half worth of meetings , average of 4-6hours each meeting and now a team meeting in Vegas this weekend and still no decision?(*edit , they're all in Vegas now... ) I wanna say he's safe caz it has been so long but...

Gillis keeps the door open by saying he'll make decision on AV this weekend , not exactly a ringing endorsement.

Joel Quenville being available might've changed Gillis' mind and with Mellanby now as Gillis' advisor... take a wild guess who Mellanby would rather have as head coach. Plus Quenville is former teammate of Gillis...

Just when I thought the coaching aspect was secure for the summer ,its getting juicy again...

I think Vigneault will be fired, and I think it's a mistake. Though Quenneville is a guy I would definitely be interested in, if the team is altered more to his style.

I don't get the impression that Gillis has any real desire to keep Vigneault in place, notwithstanding that he's been one of the more successful coaches in Vancouver history in his short time here. House-cleaning really strikes me as unnecessary... this isn't 1998. This is an average team in a salary-capped league. The last thing we need, particularly with Luongo there, and a strong defense corps -- is a classic Vancouver Canucks 10 Year Rebuild.™

because of the peculiar situation both sides make good points. I have no idea what to guess if AV is staying or going. Rumour is tomorrow something will be confirmed.

It would look horribly cruel and unprofessional if Gillis flew AV cross country to Vegas just to can him. You would think he flew hium to Vegas to participate in the player evaluations.

Yet why hasnt Gillis made any announcement ? he could end this issue so easily unless he really is still wavering his decision.

Quite frankly a Vigneault firing is the right move, at least at this point. It's obvious he's not the coach the owner or the new GM want, no reason to wait around and waste another season so that you can bring in your own man then. No reason to play politics at this point.

Mind you, I'd be all for Vigneault staying IF Nonis were still aboard. But he's not, and thus neither is his philosophy. Just do it already and get it over with.

Bringing Q on board would make sense, especially if Mellanby's there already and Demitra reportedly wants to sign there.

yeah , I agree , we can debate about firing Nonis was good or bad but since its done , I agree the new GM should have his own people if he wishes.

There's some speculation that Gillis may be re-upping AV, but I doubt it. If that were true, it would have been done by now. I'm wondering if AV is trying to save his assistants' jerbs...

Apparently Viggy is a difficult read... it took Nonis several weeks to hire him and Gillis several weeks to fire him.

Gillis is smart to keep him. If he rebuilds the team quickly by some miracle then he's a genius for keeping him. If not, coach gets canned, and Gillis effectively gets a do over...
